We did not choose the hotel (though we had checked out the tour company's website prior to making the booking for the Colca Canyon Tour, and it looked pretty good).
We were really impressed on arrival, our room was a comfortable triple, with rustic touches like exposed gables and ethnic weavings on the walls. The beds were comfortable and the en suite of good quality. Importantly, the water was hot.
There are fine views across the broad green valley to the terraced fields, with snowcapped Ampato standing guard over it all. Nigel the llama is available for photos, but not for riding.
The kitchen provides a filling breakfast, and buffet style lunches and dinners of local foods. Good to have a variety from which to choose. Breakfast is included, but the other meals are not (probably depends on your tour package). In any case, at 22-25 sols per person, the value was excellent.
