Room with a View by Papacusco9 I have stayed at the Wiracocha Inn and even at its previous location. many times. I have found the place to be a wonderful place to spend the night while traveling to Macchu Picchu. The new wing of the hostal has some beautiful views of the river and mountains. The rooms are clean. The beds are clean and the running hot water in the showers just what you need after a day at Macchu Picchu. Justina and Gregorio are always there to make your stay comfortable.
I have always enjoyed myself at the Wiracocha Inn. The 4:00 am wake up call is a knock at the door that always arrives on time. The views from the new wing are great. The new breakfast dining area has a massive picture window that looks out onto the river. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and most important the place is safe. I have left my baggage there on my last days visit to Macchu Picchu and have always found it protected and secure. Rupa Wasi Ecolodge is the only eco-lodge of its kind in the area. It is right in the heart of Aguas Calientes in Machu Picchu and offers a nice view from its hilltop location. Price is $50 for a double standard bedroom with private bathroom and $70 for a double suite bedroom. I really enjoyed my stay at Rupa Wasi and will stay here if the opportunity presents itself again in the future. The top floor rooms/suites offer excellent views with hammocks in the balcony as well as a binocular. The room was wonderfully set-up with both natural elements & Peruvian art blended in. The patchwork of colors in the bathroom and the intricately designed ceramic mosaic on its wall were FABULOUS. I found the high-pressure hot shower to be a warm (no pun intended) welcome after an exhausting trek. This was definitely a wonderful treat and retreat after a strenuous Inca Trail trekking adventure. I suggest you reserve well in advance as they do get a lot of bookings. (Note: Above noted prices were effective in September 2007)
A wonderfully conceived ecolodge with a lovely setting. It offers breakfast from 7-9 a.m. along with practical advice & services.

Our balcony at Gringo Bill's by nenzo For me Gringo Bill's was bad. Almost never hot water in the shower (Very ironic when you think that Aguas Calientes means hot water in spanish) :) Also I was expecting an english speaking reception, but the receptionist didnt speak a single word english. All the day and until far in the evening they were building on the hotel, so we had people standing just outside our room hammering and preparing a new room. Always we had to request new sheets and toilet paper, because it seemed it wasnt automatically put in the room when cleaning. Really, the only thing we liked about this hotel was the little balcony where we could rest in the afternoon, looking at the mountains, listening to the river, drinking cervezas and talking quietly with eachother. That is after they stopped working at around 20:00 in the evening. I suggest you find another place, there are lots of hotels in Aguas Calientes.

No picture - Pas de photo by Maillekeul A short stay (some hours before waking up and going to the Machu Picchu) but a nice stay... We were even allowed to come back and enjoy the showers in the middle of the next afternoon !! Un court sejour (quelques heures avant de se reveiller et de partir pour le Machu Picchu), mais un sejour sympa. On a meme pu revenir et se servir des douches en plein milieu de l'apres-midi suivant !

For $5.00 a night, we had a two bedroom accomidation with a private bathroom, free toilet paper and towels!! The rooms are beautiful an the sound of the river will hush you to sleep at night.

Pleasant hotel with friendly staff. Rooms were adequate. The rooms on the front overlook the river and have a balcony. You can sleep with the windows open if you like the soothing sound of running water. It is almost the last hotel in town on the road the busses take to machu Picchu. Because of this you need to walk uphill (a little on the steep side) to get to the main part of town where you can catch the bus or train and where all the restaurants and action are. There is no elevator so the stairs give you a little practice for what is coming at Machu Picchu. It is clean and well maintained. Don't confuse this with the Santuario Lodge which is right at the gate to Machu Picchu - the price differential is quite amazing. Add a "0" onto the end of the Santuario Hotels prices if you want to stay at the Santuario Lodge.

Prinsalsita rumbo a MachuPichu en Aguas Calientes by Prinsalsita There are many hostels, in the long avenue that conducts you to the Aguas Calientes pool. Aguas Calientes means Thermal waters. I do not remember the avenue but the whole avenue is full of hostals. most of them are little townhomes run by individual families with several rooms for rent. you get the commodities depending on the price you pay.
there are some with incredible view of the Huaynapichu mountain, those range in price from $15 usd and up. however there are many that provide you the basic bed and shower starting from $8 soles per person ( about 2.5 usd) I will find my notes and put some names and phone numbers. note that it helps to be able to speak spanish since most of the people there only speak spanish Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: camino a Aguas CalientesDirections: once you arrive at the train station comming from Cuzco go to your right on the only main long avenue that takes you to the thermal waters.

a really cheap place, especially for Agua Caliente, where hostels are more expensive than in Cusco. Just what we needed, a bad to sleep, and a more or less clean place to take a shower ;-)
for 8 soles in a 2bed room you cant expect too much ;-) Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than average
