A first, fabulous impression of Cusco!

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 29, 2015

As soon as we got to Cusco, our guide took to our hotel so we could drop our bags and freshen up after the long plane ride. The agency had booked a room for us at the lovely Amaru Hostal, so right from the start, Cusco pretty much blew my mind! For some reason, even though it was just the two of us, we were given the family room (no. 1), which was very large (there were 3 single beds and one double bed), with a lovely balcony overlooking the hills surrounding the city. The room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was offered from 5:30 to 9:30 am, which was pretty perfect for an early riser such as myself, and it was delicious: homemade strawberry jam, bread, fresh fruits with granola & yogurt, and eggs. The location was ideal for exploring the city: a 5-min walk from Plaza de Armas, the heart of the old city, with plenty of interesting shops and restaurants nearby. The staff working at the front desk and in the breakfast room was courteous, and spoke a bit of English. We went back to spend a night at Amaru Hostal before flying back to Canada and were given a different room (no. 110), which was smaller than the one we had before, but also very nice. Located on the lower level of the hotel, it featured a nice stone wall, which also made up the entire shower so that it felt like I was showering in a waterfall!

Directions: In the San Blas area, just a short walk from Plaza de Armas

Offers A Wonderful View Of Cusco

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 4, 2008

Hostal Amaru is a nice mid-range accommodation in the San Blas artist district. It is set on a hill and gives you a wonderful vantage point to view the city of Cusco. Apparently, they have 2 locations, but request to be placed in the original Amaru in San Blas and you will not regret it. The rooms in the front part provide a nice and lovely setting overlooking the courtyard garden. The rooms in the back part are also good. Price is reasonable at $35 for a twin/double bedroom with private bathroom and a hot shower.

Unique Quality: A nice and lovely setting on a hill in the heart of Cusco that is famous for its artistic bend. Rates include breakfast and complimentary transfers from airport to hostel and back.

Directions: From the Cusco main square, walk about 5 mins. up toward San Blas and it is on the left hand side.
