Offers A Wonderful View Of Cusco

Hostal Amaru is a nice mid-range accommodation in the San Blas artist district. It is set on a hill and gives you a wonderful vantage point to view the city of Cusco. Apparently, they have 2 locations, but request to be placed in the original Amaru in San Blas and you will not regret it. The rooms in the front part provide a nice and lovely setting overlooking the courtyard garden. The rooms in the back part are also good. Price is reasonable at $35 for a twin/double bedroom with private bathroom and a hot shower.

Unique Quality: A nice and lovely setting on a hill in the heart of Cusco that is famous for its artistic bend. Rates include breakfast and complimentary transfers from airport to hostel and back.

Hostal Amaru

by viajera67 about Hostal Amaru

$17 per night - not the least expensive in the area by any means, but well worth the extra expense, in my opinion. Great rooms, great views, hot water, lovely garden and friendly staff. I had two different rooms there and they were both big, clean and comfortable. This picture is of me in my room.

Great place in Cusco

by DaveX about Amaru Hostal

I did not book ahead so I had a different room every night and each one was different but still very good. The staff was very friendly and a basic breakfast is provided in the morning. There is somewhat of a view from the second floor of the courtyard. The location is perfect, right next to the Plaza de Armas although you may be walking uphill at the end of your night. When I was there rooms were $15 for those with a private bathroom. Closer to a bed and breakfast.

A Must-Do City Tour

by risse73

The Cusco city tour is a 1/2 day group tour @ $10/person. I booked it through my hostel in Cusco (Amaru Hostal).

It is an afternoon guided tour of the city of Cusco and the nearby Inca ruins. It includes a visit to the following points of interest: Plaza de Armas (main square), the Cathedral, Koricancha (Inca Temple of the Sun) and the Inca ruins at Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Hotel / Hostel in Cusco

by finchatticus

I'm in need of a hotel or hostel in Cusco and looking for some advice / recomendations. The people I am meeting there (old freinds) have booked at the Royal Inca ($85/night) before the Inca trail and Royal Inca Pisac ($59 / night)after. Is this a good deal / bad deal? All I really need is safe place to sleep that is somewhat clean. Is there a good backpackers hotel/hostel that somebody has used. One thing that I do need is a secure place to keep my stuff while I am doing the Inca trail. Budget is important but a really memorable place to stay is worth it too. Suggestions? Also, if there is somewhere nearby worth staying a night or two that would be a possibilty for after the Inca Trail.
Thanks

It depends what your budget & preference is. If you're willing to shell out that amount per night, then there shouldn't be a problem w/ it; however, it doesn't sound like you're really into the "hotel" idea. I, personally, care for accommodations that are unique and have an atmosphere to it.

Check out "Amaru Hostal" in Cusco. It's a mid-range hostel (about $35/room per night), and definitely not your typical one. It is in a lovely hill setting in the San Blas artist district with a nice view of Cusco. It's just 5 minutes walk to the Main Plaza of Cusco. It's in one of the famous guidebooks, but I found out about them through another travel website. You can leave your luggage/personal effects w/ them while you're trekking the Inca Trail. They have a locked storage room for this purpose and many guests leave their items there. I highly recommend this place. You can go back to them after your Inca Trail adventure, but be sure to reserve your room in advance.

If you're staying an overnight in Aguas Calientes, I highly recommend Rupa Wasi Ecolodge, a truly unique accommodation & the only one of its kind in the area. See my Aguas Calientes page for more information on them!

Goodluck & do enjoy beautiful Peru!

Addendum:

See my Cusco page for more info about Amaru Hostal. Also, I forgot to mention this: the price for Rupa Wasi in Aguas Calientes is around $50-70 per room per night.

Again, goodluck & do enjoy Peru!

I really enjoyed my stay at Los Ninos hotel in Cusco. It is safe and reasonably priced. The best part is that the hotel donates a portion of the money for your room towards helping street children. I was able to leave my bags at the hotel safely for a couple days while I hiked the Inca Trail. You can get a room for about $40 per night. http://www.ninoshotel.com

Travel Tips for Cusco

Peruvian International

by kucha about La Retama

Overlooking the Plaza de Armas from a huge second-floor space, La Retama is one of Cusco's most enduring favorites. The restaurant's walls are lined with the art and handicrafts of Peru. While it can feel a little touristy, the food is excellent. We loved the classic Peruvian dishes, such as pink trout and king fish from Lake Titicaca, seco de cordero (lamb), anticucho de lomo (beef brochette), cuy (guinea pig), and trout ceviche.
