Hostal El Balcon

There’s nothing fancy or luxurious about ‘Hostal El Balcon’, but I still loved the place! Cosy and charming settings in an old remodelled colonial building, which is located in a quiet street about 15-20 minutes walk from the Plaza de Armas. Not an easy walk because the street going up to the hostel is very steep, and it was quite challenging the first couple of times…

The room was clean, but quite small and with three beds there was not much space to move around. Beds were comfortable and had 3-4 blankets to keep you warm at night. It was necessary because the room was a little cold – however, an electric heater did a good job heating up the room when needed during the day. The bathroom was big and clean and with hot water. The room also had a TV with some local channels.

There was a small living/dining area next to the kitchen. It was here that breakfast was served and consisted of fruit, yogurt, juice, warm bread, and fried/scrambled eggs. During the day there was coca tea (‘mate de coca’) available for free. In the evening you could order soups, omelettes and a few other small dishes from the kitchen. The living/dining area was a nice place to hang out and chat with the other guests.

‘Hostal El Balcon’ had Wi-Fi in rooms and living/dining area – and there was also a computer with internet connection at the end of the reception area. We didn’t use it, so can’t tell how good the connection was. From the upper balconies there was a fantastic view of Cusco. However, the best thing about the hostel was the staff. Always smiling, friendly, and very helpful – and they created a great familiar atmosphere. Not all spoke English, but it worked out, and I will stay there again anytime...

Beautiful little hotel

I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They stored our bags while we were gone on the 4 day hike to Machu Picchu. A very lovely place.
