You probably cannot find a hotel in Cusco so close to the action as the Hostal Loreto. It is located in an alley just off of the Plaza de Armas. You would think that this would mean that the place is pricy for what you get but I found the cost within reason. My room for one person was $25.00US.
The rooms here are large. Amazingly some of the rooms incorporate the original Inca wall of a temple in them.
Unique Quality: There are no TVs in the rooms but there is a satellite TV in breakfast room. The staff was very helpful with arranging both bus and taxi tours for me. My one sour issue was the plumbing was a bit leaky.
Directions: Right across the calle from the Church La Compalia de Jesus.
Stayed eight nights. Stellar staff! Ferried us to and from airport. Arranged trip to Machu Picchu, and hired cab for tour to Tipon and Piquillacta (highly recommended). Showers hot. Rooms warm. Cable TV. Seconds off the main plaza and Cusco Cathedral & Compana de Jesus. Our room had one Inca wall, dark but atmospheric. Could be noisy in morning (departing Machu pilgrims). Breakfast included. Would absolutely stay here again.
Unique Quality: Inca wall. Extraordinary staff. Proximity to center.
Directions: Central Cusco. Directly off Plaza de Armas on Calle Loreto.
