Hotel San Agustin El Dorado: Friendly hotel in the heart of Cusco

by sheherezad

I stayed at the Hotel San Agustin El Dorado, smack in the middle of Cusco, walking distance to the Plaza de Armas. It is really a 3* hotel though described as 4* in my tour package. But the staff is friendly and flexible.

This hotel is used by the Cusco tour company with which I had a 5day/4night package, for accommodation, and we were allowed to leave our suitcases in the luggage room, the day we travel to Valle Sagrado, for which we are asked to only carry our inflight bag for the one night stay at Valle Sagrado and the train ride to Machu Picchu the next morning.

Location! Nightly street processions passing through the front of the hotel (see my video).

Hatuchay Towers: Place to stay in Agua Calientes

by ninaklooster

The service was excellent. The hotel picked up and delivered our bags from the train, freeing us to hop on the bus to Machu Picchu and to spend free time in the marker. The food was good. TV reception is not too good due to the mountains. The staff kept on trying to fix it, but it would not be fixed. The hotel was much nicer than it looked on the internet.

Our room on the fifth floor had a great view of the roaring Rio Vilcanota, one of two rivers that run through Aguas Calientes. We could hear the rain on the roof and the roar of the river. It was the rainy season.

Casa Andina, Private: Hospitality supreme!

by ninaklooster

Casa Andina really excels in service. The staff is omnipresent and everyone says Buenos Dias, Buenos Tardes or whatever, helping my sad Spanish. The rooms are oxygen enriched and very nice with complimentary robes. When we locked our key in the room, someone came by without us even asking and let us in. They found the key and didn't charge extra.

I loved the courtyards with fountains and the old furniture.

Guest houses in Cusco

by lbernedo

If you decide to stay in Cusco, consider the possibility to stay at a local guest house (there are many in San Blas). Let me explain why:
1. You'll save some money (in some cases, a lot!).
2. You may get to know better the locals and their lifestyle.
3. The money you spend won't end up in hotel chain's bank account; instead, you'll contribute to the local economy.

A word of advice: just choose carefully the place you stay at. There are many good guest houses but there are also not so good ones. You can always ask the i-peru information service in Cusco for advice and information contact.

Rumi Punku: Antiques and art work at every corner

by ryuhome

Very nice rooms and hot shower that never fails. They provide warm blankets and also extra ones just incase you need them for the very cold night. The courtyard is very pleasing. The breakfast area is nice. Beside pan and jam and butter, they also serve yogurt with bananas, chopped pineapple and papya and cereal. Free safe and storage for Machu Picchu trip is provided. The staff is a little bit lukewarm in their reception though.

A lot of antiques and art work which add charms to the place.

Familiar environment, a delicious breakfast, incredible cleanness and very reasonable rate

Close to the Plaza de Armas, central quarters
