La Casona de Yucay: Beautiful Old Hacienda

'La Casona de Yucay' is a small hotel located in Yucay, just a few miles outside Urubamba.

The room was nothing special, but clean and rather large. We didn’t have any ‘luxury’ such as TV, air conditioning or mini bar, but this was well compensated by the beautiful surroundings of the hotel. The main building is an old hacienda from 1810, and this gave 'La Casona de Yucay' an authentic atmosphere. The best thing about the hotel was the garden. So peaceful and quiet, and this was a great place to enjoy the stunning view of the nearby mountain peaks.

We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The food was OK, and furthermore we were entertained by a local musician, who was playing flute during our dinner. We also checked out the hotel bar and it was very cosy with an open fireplace – and a good selection of drinks…

Only a few staff members spoke English, but all very friendly and helpful.

I stayed one night at the hotel in November 2009, and really enjoyed my stay. I think this hotel is perfect for at night or two in 'the Sacred Valley'.

Sonesta Posada del Inca: In the heart of the Sacred Valley

This used to be a monestary a long time ago and was later converted into an inn.

In the backyard both a llama and an alpaca are kept and the inn is surrounded all around by a wonderful view of the high Andes mountains. Right next to the restaurant is a small "square" where Indians come (very early, around 6AM) and sell local crafts and textiles.
