Hanaqpacha Orquideas Hotel: The Cheaper One

This is one of two Hanaqpacha Hotels in Aguas Calientes, leading to a bit of confusion about its location and amenities. This one, Hanaqpacha Orquideas, is their budget hotel several blocks away. The rooms are small, but comfortable, and they have Direct TV and phones.

The building is fairly narrow, with a few rooms on each of 3 floors. There is no elevator. One odd feature--the windows in some of the rooms have a view of the hallway instead of the outdoors! (My room overlooked the street.)

They served breakfast (includid) but no other meals.

The advantage of this hotel over the more upscale Hanaqpacha--aside from being cheaper--is that it ISN'T right by the train, and you aren't listening to them all the time.

Unique Quality: Note: The hotel is on a pedestrian street. The building next door is a mini-mart.

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

Hatuchay Tower: Great Comfortable Hotel

This hotel was really nice. We had a room with a balcony that overlooked the river and mystical mountains.

Machu Picchu Hotel Pueblo: A Destination Unto Itself!

This hotel was luxurious! Walking the grounds of the place is an experience unto itself! They have trails with hummingbirds and orchids, and in fact they actually have tours you can sign up for that take place right there--on the hotel grounds! For example, they have an ochid tour that teaches you about the different ochids found on the property.
There are personnel employeed at the hotel who give the most wonderful massages. You just call the desk and sign up for a time. There is a sauna/steam hut outside by the pool. You must also reserve this, but it looked just wonderful. You get to use the little hut all by yourself (or as a couple).
The rooms were exquisite. Please see the photos. Some of the rooms even have fireplaces. All have magnificent views.
We ate in the restaurant for dinner. This was a chance to try Pisco Sours (the national drink) and some local cuisine. Everything was top notch and delicious!!!! I highly recommend it.
Porters will pick up deliver your suitcases to and from the train if you wish.
We could have stayed here for days, just relaxing and enjoying the hotel grounds!

Unique Quality: Everything about this hotel was unique. The view, the grounds, the way they treat you like royalty!!! Highly recommended--I cannot say enough!!!
