 | | | | Hostal El Patio in Miraflores: A bed and breakfast type hostal. . . | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
El Patio is a small hostal in Miraflores with a very nice staff. The desk staff speaks English. It's located in a safe neighborhood. Their website claims they're located a "5 minute walk from the ocean." I'd say "5 minutes" if you're running. Nevertheless, it's located a few blocks from Kennedy Parque, Pizza Alley, an artesania market, a supermarket, McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc. There's a drop-off laundry located next door to El Patio. El Patio has several different types of rooms: singles, doubles, single mini-suites, double mini-suites, and full suites. The cheapest rooms are the singles which are US$25 (check their website for the current room rates). If you make a reservation, inquire about a cash (US$ only) discount. They will reduce the daily rate by US$5 if you pay in cash. I stayed one-week and they offered to discount the rate by another 10% if I paid in advance. You do need to ask for the discount when you make your reservation. For the price, the amenities, and the location, the Hostal El Patio can't be beat.
The hostal has three floors counting the ground floor. There is no elevator so if you can't climb stairs, ask for a ground floor room. The hostal offers free breakfast in the morning which consist of coffee, tea, orange juice, and bread rolls. Breakfast is served on the second floor. The rooms have free filtered water, a telephone, and cable TV. I've stayed in the mini-suite which has a small refridgerator, a hot plate, flatware, pans, and dishware. This is a good option if you don't want to eat out at a restaurant. The only thing that I would suggest bringing is a book light if you like to read in bed. The bed lamp isn't bright enough for reading. If you need transportation to and from the airport, the hostal can arrange for a car. I strongly recommend using this service. In Sept 2004, the hostal's airport car service was only US$13. If you hire a taxi at the airport, they'll want US$15 to US$20. Since there aren't very many rooms, you do need to reserve a room as early as possible. Because there are so few rooms at El Patio, tour groups don't stay here. Instead, this place is popular with independent travelers. When I was there, most of the guests were travelers enroute to or from Cusco and places beyond. | | | | Boulevard Hotel Lima: Comfortable hotel in the "Miraflores" area Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
As part of our tour, we were booked a room at this hotel. Rooms were large and comfortable, there is really no good view, so I recommend a room in the back as the front overlooks the very busy street and it is very difficult to sleep. There is a supermarket located right next to the hotel which is very useful for getting a snack or just some bottled water. I did not particularly enjoy the breakfast as the juices were terrible, the bread was not very good either and, generally, I did not like the quality of the food. There is a swimming pool on the last floor if that is something that interests you. Should you want to stay close to the historical center, this is not the best option as it will take a 30-45 minutes taxi ride to get there, although the taxis are extremely cheap (10 soles for the ride, which is just over $3 US). This hotel is located in the Miraflores area, but we did not really take the time to explore it as we only had one day there and wanted to see the "colonial" center. It is a 4-star hotel so service is generally quite good, although front-desk personel seemed very cold with a fake smile. We were on our honeymoon and although there is apparently a honeymoon suite, we did not get it... | | | | The Witches Guest House | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This backpackers guesthouse is located in Miraflores district, south of Lima. I arrived in Lima from Iquitos late in the evening, so I just chose in my LP the cheapest place in Miraflores, as I planned to leave early the next day, and just wanted a bed to sleep in. Here they have beds in dormitories of 6 for 5 USD (most hostels ask for 10 USD for a dormitory), so I just told the taxi to take me there. It is a rather simple, basic place. It reminded me the University dormitories. High ceilings, naked walls, carpet on the floor. But the bed itself was OK, the shared showers had hot water and so.
I noticed that all the signs and announcements were in spanish, english and yiddish, so I guess this is s popular place amongst israeli people... This is one of the classical Hotels in Lima, and one of the oldest. Might be a bit old fashioned now, but I liked it. I didn't sleep here (a bit above my budget) but went for a visit and had breakfast at its delicious terrace. The lobby and the stairs are great and all that 19th century style is simply wonderful!
