Machu Pichu & the El Pueblo
by tropicalbirdartist
"Machu Pichu"
While I was at Machu Pichu there were a lot of people compared to other areas in Peru. I was still able to get photos without the otheres in the photo by just hanging back a little
"El Pueblo"
At the Hotel El pueblo at the edge of Aguas Caliente there were buetiful cloudforest gardens. Many great Hummingbirds, also in captivity they had a pair of Spectacled Bears which are very rare. The Spectacled Bear looks like a small Black Bear, but its diet is more like that of a Panada with a diet mostly of Bambo and bromileiads. They are in the process of returning these bears back to the wild.
here is a photo of one of the bromileiads that the Bear likes to eat. They eat the inner leaves.

Sunday's in Lima,Peru
by Deborajt
I will have one unexpected, full day in Lima tomorrow, Sunday. I wanted to know if businesses close down early... can I be able to go on a guided tour of the city...etc. Or will I have to do my own exploring? In general, what are Sundays like?

Sunday's are usually family day. People like to stroll in the park or have a family lunch in a restaurant. Us guys like to play a bit of futbol, then drink cerveza afterward.
You can start your day by heading out to the Plaza de Armas in Lima. Be careful of your daypack, etc. while walking about there (the Plaza de Armas is a daytime excursion, only). You can then take a taxi to the Parque Kennedy in Miraflores and stroll about, then walk down Avenida Larco to the large movie theatre/food court complex overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You can then take a taxi or combi to Barranco and have lunch there. Alternatively, you can eat lunch 2-blocks from the Parque Kennedy in Miraflores, at the Calle de las Pizzas.
Indoor activities include visiting museums, etc.
Enjoy your Sunday,

The Archeological/Historical Museum is great and gives a good overview of Peruvian history and its different regions, and will probably be open on Sunday; most museums are, but of course double check that....

You can have a tour with the Mirabus; leaving from and info at the small booth next to the cathedral at Parque Kennedy in Miraflores. Several tours available.

Travel Tips for Lima
Arid Climate and Green Parks
by grandmaR
Though often shrouded in fog, Lima is one of the world’s driest cities. In the face of chronic drought, how do they maintain the many green spaces in the city? With irrigation. There are men whose job it is to water all the green places and parks.
We saw a man watering this area from the bus. But the same goes for ANY green space that you see on the coast of Peru. If someone didn't water it, it would be dry as dust.
Pirate CD's

At Wilson you may get everything in computers, legal, or not. Here you may find all the computer programs which are somehow important, at low price. They told that that trading is now forbidden, but at least in the end of 2007 the business was still going strong. I bought the newest MS programs, and some graphics and acoustics programs. And a Spanish course, too. Prices are minimal compared to the legal ones.
Lan Peru Airlines
by tomruth78
Lan Peru for those wondering is a great airline. We flew on new airbus 3000 planes. Better than some long haul flights I have had. And for those Vegetarians, you may want to take your own sandwiches as meat free ones of this airline didn't exist when I was there.
Fresh fruit
by flynboxes about Fruit cart
Along the cliffs of Miraflores you will see ice cream vendors and the fruit merchant with his cart.
Prices are fair and this is a great place to pick up a snack for breakfast or if you get the munchies after a night of hitting the bars
