Travel through Lima and Cuzco, Peru

by dglorioso13

Anyone traveling through Lima to Machu Picchu - August 23 - 28? any suggestions on what to do with afternoon in Lima? with 11 pm flight out of Lima, have 6-7 hours during day.

If you have 6-7 hours available, you could go downtown to the Main Square (Government Palace, Cathedral, Municipality, Jiron de la Union) and surroundings. Around you will find the colonial balconies, the ancient houses, and the stunning churches (the San Francisco convent and its catacombs two blocks from there!). You can check more on the convent in

You might need to hire a safe taxi at the airport though. And make sure to be at the airport at least two hours prior to your flight.
Good luck!

We grabbed a cab and headed downtown and went to visit the Museum of the Inquisition / Museo de la Inquisición. We also just wandered around before taking a cab back to the airport.

Travel Tips for Lima

Barranco

by chancay

Most of the travellers I met didn´t like Lima at all. Ok, there are too much other interesting places in Peru, nevertheless Lima as well is a very interesting Metropolis.
First we´ve got downtown Lima with a lot of beautiful old buildings, an amazing cathedral next to the "plaza de armas", a lot of other beautiful churches, very interesting museums, in a lot of different districts every kind of nightlife, for example a lot of nice bars in Barranco, little villages and suburbs all around Lima with nice beaches....and so on

LIMA'S LITTLE GALAPAGOS

by MerlinAmsterdam

During our holidays we went to on a half day trip to Lima's Little Galapagos organised by Aventuras de oro based in Lima. First we sailed about 1 hour: we went belong some islands, one where the President has a house (the only house), there were lots of sea birds (I guess some 20-25 different species) and when we arrived to the Islands: big rocks in the Pacific with thousands of sealions on top it. The guide, who spoke very well English, explained that there were about 3,000 sealions and in winter there are even more about 6,000. some of us took a dip into the water, wetsuits were provided and the curious sealions came closer by. We had a very nice day and I would definately recommend this trip for if you have a free day in Lima.

Tango en Lima

by K-nalla about Several locations

New info:
Sundays: two places, Satchmo Cafe and Zipango Bar, in Barranco.
Tuesdays: Restaurante Patagonia in Miraflores,
Milongas are quite social and the crowd is friendly. Crowd are mainly seniors but they sure keep up with the pace. Not much neotango (bad for me).
More info can be found at protangoperu.com about specific addresses and times No special requirements. They do have a nice wood floor so your dancing shoes wont get destroyed if you wear them.

Excellent Peruvian Cusine

by sfphototraveller about Astrid and Gaston

I had the scallops melt in your mouth type cusine with cream in the shell.
I also had the Lamb the meat close to the bone was soft and excellent but the outter part was a bit tough. I need to return and try more dishes here. its that good.
The prices are a bargain for Peruvian Cusine back home easily twice the price if not 3 times in San Francisco.

Really good thay food

by jpizquierdo about Siam

This is a very good place to visit, the menu is very wide, there food not 100% thai because the ingredients are not always available… but the flavors are very similar and sometimes even better. The atmosphere is very warm
We try Pad thay and green curry , and for begin a Poh Pia Sod and yam woon sen
