home peru

by georgt

hello, a quick question for whoever have related feedbacks:
I am interested in booking a room at the "peruhome hotel", a real bargain which goes with the colour of my travelling trousers, the location in which it is found (miraflores) and the style of the place(colonial), looks fine but if you have any comments, please let me know.
Thanks for your collaboration

Hi!
I stayed there in 2005. The location is not too bad, close to Miraflores (but not quite there) and almost next door to a big supermarket. The kitchen was big enough to cook properly.

The problem for me was that it's right on a very busy road and even with earplugs, it was a bit of a struggle to sleep. The bedrooms were also very basic and not at all like the pictures on the website!

Breakfast was good and the reception people were helpful with directions for collectivos etc...

I'm sure you can find as cheap or cheaper in Barranco (much nicer area) but if you want something halfway between Lima's town centre and Miraflores and you don't mind traffic noise, then it's as good a choice as any.

Hi -

Home Peru is located in a great area. It is extremely close (walking distance) to downtown miraflores with tons to do. My aunt and cousin stayed here (per my reccomendation) and loved it. The owner is fantastic! Plus, it is just one-two blocks away from South American Explorers lima office, which has a TON of info on travel in Peru.

Enjoy the stay! It's a great place.

Travel Tips for Lima

Racist Hypocrisy

by Assenczo

One has to go no further then fifty meters away of the main square and he will find another manifestation of South American hypocrisy carved in stone. The monument, shaped like an Indira Ghandi grave stone, commemorates and honours the local tribe that established the settlement where now Lima stands. Except for the physical coincidence of the two locations there is nothing else in common between the “indigenas” and the City of Kings. It was a Spanish creation for Spanish purposes maid by Spaniards. Of course, it is awkward, when ungrateful offspring disassociates from its ancestors and claims connection to a root totally foreign to it. This shows to what lengths people are prepared to go in order to justify their claim to power.

There are many attractions...

by Luis_Alberto

There are many attractions around the downtown area of Lima, its colonial past has left some nice architecture only to be found in Lima and nowhere else in Latin America, especially the typical 'Balcones Limeños', colonial balconies.

local buses

by richiecdisc

The central area of Lima is fairly compact so you can get around on foot and taxis, when shared, can be a great alternative. The local buses seemed very confusing but sure it's easy enough to get to the more touristy areas of Miraflores and Barranco. We mostly had a tough time dodging them, especially to cross the street before the Parque de la Exposicion!

Ceviche

by flynboxes about Vivaldino

I tend to avoid fresh fish when South of the boarder but here I had no problems and could not resist the ceviche which the top with a hot pepper on one version of this great dish.
It tends to be a popular place with the locals to come and relax for a nice brunch or special date. You can sit inside or outside and watch shoppers or tourists pass by. Ceviche and there is also a well stocked bar. While not a backpackers joint it was a nice place for a good meal

Good seafood and beautiful sunset

by MovingMere

This beach is only about a half an hour from Lima via combi. Once you get here, you can enjoy the freshly caught seafood (notice the numerous fishing boats in the pictures), the beach, or walking around the town. The seafood is freshest earlier in the day, so you may want to plan a lunch instead of a dinner here if you're traveling for the food. The beach is covered with smooth rocks instead of sand. Luis looked at me like I was crazy when I made a comment about the people sitting on the rocks. I live next to an area called the Sandhills. There's no such thing as a non-sandy beach here. But I suppose a perk with the rocky beach is not having to worry about sand sticking to your suntan-lotioned skin. The town is nice to walk around, as it is quiet and the homes are very pretty. The point of Lima (La Punta) is here and provides a relaxing place to watch the sunset over the water.
