Central Lima

Stayed six nights, then returned for another two. Cab picked us up at airport. Rooms spartan but highly affordable. All rooms faced courtyard, could be noisy at night, depending on other guests (ha!). Staff extremely helpful. Showers sometimes hot, other times not. Breakfast adequate, not included. Minutes from Plaza De Armas and Lima Centro. Internet on bottom floor.

Unique Quality: Only place we've ever shared with three resident tortoises strolling the 2nd Floor. Less than two minutes walk from San Francisco Catacombs

Lima's heaven on earth

Once again I found my way back to Peru as I am in love with the country... my 3rd trip by now. So as usual i spent a couple of days in Lima and at HOTEL ESPAÑA which has become my base in Peru to travel from and to places... It is amazing how much it has changed in the last year.. I didn't think it could look better but it does :) I definetly recommend staying at this hotel!

Unique Quality: The beautiful garden at the top, the cafeteria perfect to meet fellow travellers, the internet, the travel agency, the taxi service and laundry service.... good value for money!

Historic and atractive place

This popular budget hotel is situated next to the San Francisco Convent and 4 blocks from the Plaza de Armas (main square).

It's a fine old colonial building that is slowly being restored, and makes an excellent base to explore Lima and to meet with other backpackers from all over the world. The walls are full of paintings, and statues and plants adorn every possible corner. You'll find a garden up on the roof complete with crawling tortoises and various caged birds. It's a good place to relax and have a beer. There is also a travel agency with plenty of helpful information, message boards, a book exchange, good cafe, and luggage storage facilities. Security appears a little informal although there are lockers that you can use so you may want to bring your own padlock. If you want hot water get up early. Videos shown at night.

Unique Quality: A warm and Welcoming home to any traveler needing some relaxation and comfort
It is and oldcolonial-republican style house from XIX century.
The terrace Includes a hanging garden.
The roof is an elegant garden.
View from the hotel to the San Francisco Church
Restaurant: on the terrace
you will feel at home

A must stay in Lima

I stayed there in two ocassions. The roof is a great place to have something to eat and drink. The rooms are basic but really cozy. I was last there in december and the place has changed in the last 2 years, it looks much nicer!!! It is quite cheap and close to all the attarctions in Lima dowtown. Perfect place to meet with other travel fellows and share a few tips. If you gotta stay in Lima, do yourself a favour and stay at this place. I have stayed in Miraflored and Barranco, but you just miss what really Lima is about.

Unique Quality: Art and vegetation are everywhere... it is the coolest hotel i've been too.
Internet service.
Restaurant.

Hotel España

This old classical peruvian hotel is one of the best options if you want to stay on a budget in central Lima. It is located in a traditional Lima house, just a few meter from Plaza de Armas. Inside the hotel there are a labyrinth of rooms. I was given a room ON THE TOP TERRACE, just at the very top of the 3rd floor and, the first time, it took me about 15 minutes to get there, climbing stairs, taking wrong corridors, crossing patios with bars terraces, full of plants, crossing from one terrace to another... but it was worth the effort, as the views were great and all surrounded by plants, you could see all Lima roofs.
I reserved via internet in advance, as I wanted them to pick me up at the aiport, but they came late, so I finally took the Urbanito bus, which is rather convenient too.
The room was simple but clean. Showers outside.

Unique Quality: 6 USD for a single room.
At walking distance for any touristic place in historical Lima centre.

Travellers hot spot downtown

In august 2005 we have stayed for 2 nights in a double with bathroom in hotel Espana and it was a very nice stay. The price was 45 soles per night. Pick up from the international airport costs 9 USD and was reliable and effective. The only disadvantage of this charming, fantasticly decorated hotel is the noise of fellow travellers coming in or walking by. So take your earplugs with you! The internal restaurant serves nice food, also for breakfast. If you arrive in Peru/Lima withoud soles, it's no problem: you can pay in dollars and exchange for reasonable rates in the hotel. They speak some English too.

I recommend staying in the center and not staying in Miraflores. We have felt safe during day and evening and the hostel is in walking distance of the San Francisco church and the Plaza des Armas.

Unique Quality: Decoration and the general atmosphere are fantastic for a budget hostal. Great place to meet fellow travellers.

This hotel/hostel is located in Central Lima, close to the Plaza Mayor. A great place to meet fellow travellers, I found it clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced

Unique Quality: Overflowing plants everywhere give this hotel a unique appeal. A relaxed restaurant on the top floor is a great place to meet fellow travellers

Cheap place to stay

Hostal Espa?a is very central, the staff is very helpful, the rooms are basic and clean. I had a small room on the roof top. Bathroom was shared. I booked the room and picking up from the airport via email. If my memory isn't failing me I paid 7 USD for the pick up.

Unique Quality: Hot showers (shared), laundry, internet access, roof-top terrace and café

Limas Heaven on Earth

The best choice to stay in Lima, that is!,
lovely environment, great service, full of plants, it is an old building really well taken care of, while you are here you feel at home, cheap prices, accomodation and restaurant. Hot water all the time, a cool place to spend your days in Lima, who can ask for more???
Come on and check out yourself!

Unique Quality: Facilities:
fast connection at the internet cafe,
restaurant, hot water the whole day... tourist info, lovely garden, place to park motorcicles ( people do travel in motorcicles huh!!!)
About the prices, it is about 6 bucks ($) per person... $3 if you sleep in a dorm.
Oh, by the way, the taxi driver tried to take me and my fiance to some other hotel, he told us the hotel was closed or something like that, we were aware of these kind of things, so we just told him to take us straight to where were wanted to go, so , do not let them fool you

old world feel and centrally located

As soon as you walk into the lobby area and see the sun from the skylight shedding natural light on a bust of David and the Venus de Milo, you know you have a special kind of place. Add to this, lots of green vines sprawling towards the floor and some beat up old furniture and you know it's one of those great budget places that make you happy you are still too poor to pre-reserve a room from home.

Unique Quality: This is a multi-floor place with high ceilings and various size rooms, some with six single beds rented hostel-fashion. The restaurant on one of the upper floors is always full of travelers trading tails. If there is one problem with the place, it's that the doubles are all on the top floors and it tends to be noisy until 11 or so.
