I stayed in this hostel for about a week, It was reaaally good!! It has a lot of facilities! like free internet, wifi, free breakfast, laundry service, etc. But I think the most important quality is the location! it is the middle of the most popular district in Lima and is near everything. The staff is also very friendly and helpful for any info that you need. The webpage is : www.pariwana-hostel.com

    Highly recommended!!

Unique Quality: The best locaction. A very nice bar and terrace with differetn table games, like pool, table tennis, etc. Free breakfast and internet. Very nice staff

Directions: Miraflores district, in front of Kennedy's Park

    Live in Miraflores.....is the best!

You have chosen Loki Backpackers/Incahaus respect!!

This hostel is the new little brother of the stunning Loki hostel in Cusco, built in the 1920’s this house was used up until 2000 as a place for offices…yawn, But! In 2005 was transformed beautifully into the place to stop and party in Lima.

Slap bang in the heart of Miraflores, this is where many journeys begin, end or continue and we are here to see that this is one of those places that you remember when the grandkids are sitting on your knee!!

With our in-house bar offering great views of Miraflores park and surrounding areas, friendly out going staff who have all the answers! We will point you in the right direction to all the best bars, clubs, restaurants and of course markets (ohh how we love them … never enough furry jumpers in the world!)

On top of this add in all the services that a backpacker could possibly want; bar with great views and special drinks, free internet, free breakfast (continental), comfy beds, excellent showers, movie room with DVD selection, nightly events and our famous bbq nights.

The hostel has rooms of all types from singles, doubles, triples, rooms with ensuites and both large and small dorms. If you find it hard to book with us we always try to keep some space for walkins.

Who said Lima was only a place to stay a day in, shame on you!! Let us show you the real Lima that not many see, you will not be disappointed.

    All roads lead to Lima.

Travelling from Lima to Montevideo

by LOCORIVERO

Hi there,

I hope someone out there can help me out

Im looking to travel from Lima, Peru to Montevideo Uruguay......
im living in London so im not sure if there are any low cost airlines that operate through south America

Im just after the cheapest way to travel between the 2 locations weather it be airplane/train or bus

Thanks
Mario

Re: Travelling from Lima to Montevideo

by cgf

you could take a bus (more then one) and it would be cheap BUT it takes about three days (if nothing goes wrong) and you may need eating, drinking... at end it will not be so cheap.
check for a cheap flight from Lima to Buenos Aires o SouthBrazil with Gol and then take a bus.

Travel Tips for Lima

it never rains....at least,since 1971!

by cbeaujean

a city built on a desert coast...
a miracle because rio rimac's oasis and "garua",as substitute of rain, a very thin drizzle ,continuous from may to october.... an odd atmosphere...sometimes engendering ,in winter, blues feelings...

Peruvian Hamptons

by MarcoNYC

If you are in Lima during the summer season (Dec-Feb) and must go to the beach, you can go to the beaches near Miraflores & Barranco (costa verde) but i wouldnt recommend it. Those beaches are usually dirty & crowded. I personally prefer the beaches to the south of lima (about an hour trip) wheye you will find nice, clean, touristy beaches. I'd recommend San Bartolo for beach fun and tourists or Santa Maria for a more private, cleaner area

Long distances - cheap taxis

by ThiagoRamos

Lima is a huge city!!! If you are staying at the old city center, maybe you will be able to go everywhere walking (unless you are planning to visit Miraflores, Barranco or Callao).

But if you are staying at Miraflores, like I´ve done, it is impossible to go to the city center walking. A cab shall cost you around 10 soles, so don´t hesitate and take it. Save your legs to walk in Cusco!!!

Try the Ceviche!

by cruisingbug about La Rosa Nautica

La Rosa Nautica is one of the most exclusive restaurants in Lima. The restaurant is built on pilings out away from the shore and literally sits on top of the pounding waves. While you eat, you can watch surfers and beachgoers, and feel the waves pass beneath the floor.

Also, as you make your way out to the restaurant, along the pier, are little souvenir shops. Most likely overpriced, and they weren't open when we were there (Saturday lunch). Try the ceviche! I'd had this dish before, but not Peruvian style. It was quite good, and comes as both an appetizer or a main dish (main dish size costs about $10). I couldn't get enough of it. And the little sweet potatoes that come alongside are the sweetest you'll ever taste. Wish I could have brought some of those home.

Museums in Peru

by AnnieLituma

I have being in Peru recently and after visiting almost every museum in Lima and Cusco and will definitely recommend the following as a must (eventhough you don´t like to visit museums - but in Peru, they are almost an obligatory experience, because of the complex history it has!):

In Lima - the capital city has the best museums and you must visit one in particular, Larco Museum. It has an extraordinary collection of pre-columbian art. Pottery, gold and silver, textiles and it´s perfectly labelled in english and even french! There are excellent guides in english too that you can hire for a tour for about $8.
There is a Café in the gardens where you can try peruvian excellent food. Don´t miss it.

In Cusco - a beautiful surprise about two blocks of the Plaza de Armas, was the Museo de Arte Precolombino. I thinks it is relatively new, but the collection is outstanding.
You learn to appreciate primitive art the same way you can appreciate today a Monet o Picasso painting. You must go there!
