No blue skies, what?
by lloydhannis007
I was in Lima last year and we had blue skies for about 5 months before the typical fog appeared. I heard many people came to Lima for plastic surgery...has anyone been/can recommend anywhere, out of interest?
Gosh, talking of plastic surgery, what about cosmetic dentistry. I was searching the web and found www.travelandsmile.net that is in Lima. What do you guys think to it? A good move perhaps?
Anyways, Im back in Lima and staying all year. Would be good to hear from some of you guys heading this way! lloydhannis@hotmail.com Being stuck on the PanAmericana after a strike by local workers and taking a donkey and cart....
Packing List

Bring Repellent, a good wind braker (this is not Chicago, but you may still need it!), and some extra money for bottled water. The weather is mostly warm, the lowest temperature in Lima is maybe 10'C so don't bring many winter clothing... unless you are planning to go to the Andes (that's cold). It doesn't rain in Lima, so don't worry so much about that. REPELLENT! And just the usual. Remember to be extremely careful with the water you drink, so you may want to bring some Purifying tablets. If you are into photography, remember that Lima is usually a gray and cloudy city. Around Lima it will be hard to find film or batteries, but you can find virtualy anything you may need in Lima, even for medium or large formats. Bring your Sleeping Bag, a tent and your bathing suit (if you are a girl, bring the smallest bikini you have please)... and if you go to one of the beaches around Lima during summer, be ready to party really hard! It would be a good Idea to bring your Surf Board or your Mountain Bike, there are pretty cool places for Xtreme sports near Lima. But forget about Snowboarding!!! What else? I don't know... bring your dog, whatever you want; just enjoy the ride!
Pisco Sour
by richiecdisc about El Cordano
Lima is full of nightlife with pubs and thriving nightclubs, but we never saw much of it. We were used to the hiking/backpacking life and we generally got up early and went to bed accordingly. Still, we enjoyed some early evening drinks such as pisco sours here at El Cordano. This magic elixir is made from pisco, Peru's equivalent to tequila. It's a grape-based liquor and mixed with egg white, lemon juice, sugar, bitters and crushed ice, an intoxicating and all too drinkable cocktail. A cheesey American smile....lol. D hates this photo but it's the only one of a pisco sour I have.
Taxis and Buses

Lima has a large amount of Taxi's. Most are safe, but be sure to arrange the price before you get in.
In heavy traffic, if there is no lane for your taxi, the driver will conveniently create a new one, using new and modern horn techniques.
Chifa
by XKuger about Chifa
Chifa is the largest chineese chain in LIMA. Its also incredibally cheap and you can get a full mean including soup for approx 12 soles which is about 3.5 US$
Suprisingly there also have an english menu in some of the larger Cifa restaurants like the one in Miraflores where there is a much wider selection.
It is Cantonese Chineese food. Found it to be good value for money. Even though I did have some difficuty explaining to them that I was vegetarian I found the soups to be good. Also the vegetarian fried rice was made extra spicy as requested.
