Lima Tour Suggestions

by linuslinus

I'm planning out my itinerary for my trip to Peru. Coming from Machu Picchu, I am staying for 2 days and 1 night in Lima before heading home. My flight on the 2nd day is late at night so I have all day to see the city.

If that's not enough, I can always extend my trip for one more day to see Lima.

What do you think?

The centre of Lima-Plaza Mayor (Plaza de Armas) with the Cathedral and presidential palace.
Cerro San Cristobal.

Pachacamac ruins (outside Lima), and/or:

Huaca Pucllana (in Miraflores)

In Miraflores: the municipality offers several tours such as the Mirabus:

Shopping in Miraflores in the craft stores on Avenida Petit Thouars. Shopping centre Larco Mar is much more expensive but nice views.

In the evening (from 5 pm) there is a crafts market in the Parque Kennedy.

In the evening going to a peña:

Have a look at the English-language-magazine:

I have more info on my pages with websites.

Indeed extend your trip. Lima is a large city and the extra time can be well spent even if you just relax and take it easy. I found Lima the kind of city that kind of grows on you. The more parts of the city that you see and the more comfortable you get with moving around the better it feels.

MachuPicchu will open next April 1st.

I live in Lima, so, I think you can visit the downtown, Miraflores and maybe some museums.

Don't skip the "CIRCUITO MAGICO DEL AGUA" (water fountain), you have to go at night to see the water + lights. It is very closer the downtown. It doesn't work mondays and tuesdays. It costs S/ 4 (less than 2 US Dollars).

A lot of people criticize to the mayor because the "CIRCUITO MAGICO DEL AGUA" costs more than 13 million US Dollars, people said: "why did he pay a lot of money in water + lights".

I think it is a very very nice place in Lima. You can search it in YOUTUBE, here some pictures:

Travel Tips for Lima

Larco Mar

by tomruth78

Larco Mar is a kind of shopping/entertainment plaza built into a cliff edge overlooking the sea. A few good shops some great little eating establishments.

Just to warn you, nothing opens till later in the day there. So, if you were thinking of venturing there early because you were up due to jet lag, think again.

Surfing is a rather popular activity here in Lima. Though I came here in autumn, I saw many surfers when I went to Miraflores beach. If you go for lunch to the Rosa Nautica restaurant, you will see them riding the waves from the terrace of the restaurant, a fabulous observation deck. If you don't want to enter the restaurant, you can go to the end of the pier and see the riders from there.

more than a coffee...

by rpep about Il Cappuccino

This is a rather inexpensive cafe, right in the heart of Miraflores. With a very calm ambience, its a great place to chill out, hung out with friends, get some work done (as it provides free WI-FI connection) or just get a delicious coffee. As well as hot and cold coffees (which I must say are the best I've tried so far, especially the Mocha Shake or the Iced Baileys Cappuccino!), this place has sandwiches, salads, appetizers, drinks, desserts.... and, they have breakfast, lunch and dinner special prootions for a rather low price!! not exactly a dish, but a coffee: Mocha Shake. which includes vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate syrup and freshly-made coffee of the greatest quality.
Iced Baileys Cappuccino: the same freshly-made coffee, blended with ice, milk and Baileys Irish Cream. SImply Delicious!!

as for food or sandwiches... The Mozzarella Special is amazing. Its a chicken sandwich, with ham, tomato sauce, and its covered in grilled mozzarella.
the Lomo KIng Sandwich is also very good. ROast Beef with Dijon mustard, resh lettuce and caramelized onions, simply delicious!!

I did not like it

by jpizquierdo about Kabok

We arrived about 20:30, only one table used inside, we seated and waited about 5 minutes to be attended, we order a pad Thai and a chicken green curry. the pad thai, wasn´t even related with the real thai recipe, no tasty not eatable, and the green curry , also not related with the real recipe, was reazonable good, but was not what I´ve asked. service was slow, we were only 7 people on the restaurant and took about half an hour.
