Banks in Puno
by risse73
If you're ever in need of cash, there are major banks available around Puno's busy Lima Street. These banks are right in the vicinity of the Tourist Information Office and are near many shops and eateries. Major banks such as Banco Continental and Banco de Credito can be found. I used Banco Continental's ATM and the transaction was as seamless as it is in the U.S. Peruvian Soles or US Dollars can be dispensed from this bank's ATM. Meeting people, sightseeing, and eating local goodies!
Tours to Lake Titikaka
by darthmilmo
There are several tour companies in town that offer the standard one to two day tour of the Peruvian islands on Lake Titikaka. These companies seem to buy the service from a larger company that seems to handle all the boats. Inquire around to see which ones interest you. The key here is to shop around since you will probably end up in the same boat as everyone else. So some on the boat may have paid more or less than you.
Go from Puno to Cusco by TRAIN
by chancay
Great adventure and much more interesting than going by bus. 10 to 12 hours journey. Don´t expect a punctual departure of the trains, there´s always delay. Read more on my Cusco Transportation page.
Don´t go first class, too boring.
If you go in the third class you are among the peruvian "buisness" travellers, these who go to the Cusco market to sell their handcraft articles asthe trains serves as transport medium for the technical wares that came into country through the chilenian free trade zone as well. When we travelled the whole train was filled up with televisons and other technical stuff.
You won´t die of hunger neither in the third class, whole time their are women and children selling delicious peruvian food.
Lake Titikaka: Floating Islands of the Uros
by darthmilmo
The second day, I took a tour to vast the Peruvian side of Lake Titikaka. Our first stop was at the Floating Islands of the Uros, which are made out of local reeds and anchored with poles. I don't care what they call them: floating souvenir stands for example. The Uros craftsmanship with the native reeds is still amazing!
Conde de Lemos Balcony
by ValbyDK
Opposite ’Museo Carlos Dreyer’ is an old colonial building from the 17th century. It was the home of Viceroy Conde de Lemos, but today it serves as the cultural department of the National Institute of Culture of Puno.
The yellow building is decorated with a beautiful carved wooden balcony. Well hidden behind the electric power lines…
