Comfortable Tourist-Class Hotel in Puno

Hotel Italia is another comfortable tourist-class hotel located near Puno’s main square and its restaurants and shops. A comfortable sitting room off of the main lobby provides complementary mate de coca and other teas and hot water and is an excellent gathering place for groups. No elevator is available but friendly porters provide help with luggage. Puno’s high elevation make the air quite thin, particularly for visitors who haven’t yet acclimated to the elevation, and climbing up the stairs can leave tourists gasping for breath. The beds and bathroom aren’t luxurious but sufficient, and a small television suspended from the ceiling provides access to local and U.S. stations. Several friendly local women sit on blankets outside the hotel’s front doors, selling hats, gloves, and small knit toys to passersby. A local grocery across the street markets local fruits and the local women selling their produce are quite helpful and friendly.
