Nice hotel in the centre of Puno
'Sol Plaza Hotel' is located in a small side street near the city's main square 'Plaza de Armas' and within walking distance to many restaurants and sights in Puno. A good tourist class hotel with nice and clean rooms and large bathrooms. We stayed at the hotel for four nights in November 2009, and our room had three single beds, a small table, a fridge, safety box, and a small TV. The room was located on the 2nd floor, and with no elevator, it was a hard climb in the thin air…
The morning buffet was fine with an OK selection of warm and cold dishes. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, one of my friends became ill during our stay, but the staff was outstanding and helped us in any way possible.
The front door was closed - with fence and a padlock - from around 10pm every night, but the night porter will let you in if you have a late night. The area seemed safe, but be careful of the traffic in the narrow side street. Due to the location, the room had some traffic noise – but not really a problem.
I would stay at 'Sol Plaza Hotel' again anytime.
