More about Sol & Luna Hotel

Paradise Within A Paradise

by A TripAdvisor Member

Sol y Luna is nothing less than a self-contained private paradise within the greater paradise that is the Andean region of Peru. While it has the ambiance, the five-star food lodging and service of an elegant retreat , it serves too as a perfectly-situated base-camp to discover the area and to partake of the high-country pleasures and pursuits.

Located in the Sacred Valley, Sol y Luna seems, itself, to be a sacred space. My only regret during a week-long stay is that I didn't make more time to spend within the hotel grounds.

Sol & Luna above average

The good news
This is undoubtedly a good hotel. The setting is excellent and the facilities very good.
The bungalow double room we had was large and well appointed.
The Restaurant facilities were adequate but not exceptional for this hotel.
Overall a very enjoyable stay.
The bad news.
The cancellation conditions on the booking contract are onerous, for both the stay and every service purchased. Do not purchase a service unless you are sure that you can take it up.
The charges are very high, substantially above any other hotel we have stayed in within Peru. The margins for the management must be massive.
The restaurant food is tiresome and dull after 3 days. One longs for a fresh choice of simple food at a simple price. They are available in Urubamba at modest cost.

A perfect paradise!

Sol y Luna is truly one of the most beautiful and serene places on the planet. A small complex of thoughtfully furnished cassitas: with exquisite meals, spa, pool and stables, situated in a virtual Garden of Eden landscape, Sol y Luna provides privacy peacefulness and perfection. Staying at Sol y Luna is balm for the spirit.

Wonderful relaxing place

by TripAdvisor Member Peter11

We had four fabulous nights.
The whole place is 1st class and we´ve really enjoyed ourselves.
If you get a chance, do try the 1/2 day to Moray and Salineras and don´t miss the rafting either.
The staff was excellent as was the food.
The Sacred Valley is a most fasinating place.
Thank you for everything.

very nice but you pay alot for the privilege

The hotel itself is in a fantastic setting in the beautiful sacred valley. The rooms are spacious and clean with huge beds. You are a little out of town so there is no real alternative to the hotel restaurant in the evenings. The food is good but expect to pay in dollars what you would be paying in soles elsewhere in Peru (three times as much at the time of writing) - effctively London prices. you might expect this in this standard of hotel but what brings it down is the level of service, lots of staff but lacking conviction in its execution. Guests seem to be tolerated as a necessary inconvenience. We agreed a late check out but returned from a dusty bike ride to discover our bags had been removed from the room and were 'told off' for missing check out. We effectively had to beg for access to a shower. Not what out expect from this standard of accomodation. Overall a pleasant environment but step out of line and you are treated as intruders.
Activities such as mountain biking, walking etc can be booked on site but are also greatly overpriced. we took an easy taxi ride to Ollytatambo just down the valley and found activities availble much more cheaply. We did a bike ride from the Moray ruins via the Salinas which was excellent and a quarter of the on site price.

Our Perfect Wedding

by TripAdvisor Member matrimonio

We were married at the Sol y Luna Hotel in Urubamba, Peru in May 2006. The whole experience was perfect. We live in Cusco and had chosen the Sol y Luna on our first visit there because of its magnificent location with spectacular views but also because of the beauty and style of the hotel and grounds.

Sol y Luna has the most beautiful gardens I know. In May, every flower seems to be in bloom - and believe me there are a lot of flowers! Having an outdoor wedding was important to us and we had the perfect setting at Sol y Luna.

The owner (Petit) and manager (Charlie) were so professional and helpful during the planning stages of the wedding and due to their meticulous attention to detail and excellent staff, had our special day run without a hitch.

What we imagined our day to be - turned out to be just that. A beautiful, relaxed, natural experience with no stress but plenty of beautiful moments shared with our close family and friends.

Sol y Luna is a very special and powerful place.

A ride with a view....

by TripAdvisor Member MaryOnBonaire

The hotel & grounds are gorgeous, and I know of no other Ranch or stables that takes such excellent care of their horses.

My partner and I rode with Viento Sur at Sol y Luna last Saturday, Sept. 2nd (an all-day trip on horseback to Moray, Maras, and the Salinas.) The trip was fantastic! What a beautiful place to ride - it was incredible.

The guide & the trainer, Dora and Felix, took excellent care of us. They were great - very professional and personable.

For their company, their knowledge, their sense of humor (and everything else) - many thanks. You have great people working for you. I look forward to the "next time".

Best from sunny Bonaire,

best hotel in the area

by TripAdvisor Member lglober

We stayed in Sol Luna on our recent vacation to Peru and Urubamba valley. I was looking for an upscale hotel in the area. The first choice was hotel Monasterio in Cusco, but completely out of range with the prices. Read about Sol Luna in one of the travel books. Hotel is so upscale and beautiful with a lot of European charm. No wonder that it is owned by a European couple from Switzerland , that loved the area and decided to spend their time doing what they like to do. Every room is a separate villa in a round shape. There are some luxury suites that look like lofts with a relaxing area upstairs. Every detail has been very carefully designed by the owner himself including the furniture. The grounds are spectacular with the villas located among a sea of flowers. They just completed a spa pavilion, which offers an array of treatments. The hotel has it’s own stables with something like 20 horses. The owners live on premises and always oversee the operation. The restaurant is very upscale and breakfast is included in the room rate.

We stayed 2 nights there on the way to Machu Picchu , and came back for one more night on the way back. I think this hotel deserves much more recognition. It is undoubtly the best place to be in the area.

A perfect experience

by TripAdvisor Member ATravelerA

Wow, what an amazing hotel. From the minute we stepped out of the taxi we were treated like Royalty!
The hotel is wonderful and the rooms are designed as a separate round-shape houses with amazing attention to quality and details!
Spa facility has Dry sauna and Steam room and is like an oasis in the middle of the Hotel property that surrounded with a lot of flowers. Hotel's restaurant and bar are one of the best in the area.
Stay at this hotel and have the thrill of a lifetime!! Enjoy!

hotels in Cuzco

I'll be in Cuzco during May and I'm looking for any recommendations for places to stay. I'm interested in a room for two people with a private bathroom. Thanks in advance.
