Hospedaje 'Mi Casa': Basic but tranquil
This place is situated a 10 minutes walk from the city center. It has several recently renovated tidy apartments which include a bedroom and a living room with a sofa, dining table and a kitchenette. There is a large fridge and a gas stove as well as a microwave. All necessary dishes and utensils are provided. Cable TV is also available. The bathroom is clean but if you want hot water you have to ask the manager to put the boiler on. The bed is a bit small for two persons. Cleaning service is a couple times per week.
I think this is a good budget option as it seemed to be in a more attractive part of the city and much more tranquil than other cheap hotels I saw and on a longer stay you can cook your own meals. Beware though if you stay here in the winter time, it can get quite cold in the nights.

Gran Hotel Tacna: Good location but oldish
This hotel is located near the centre of the city and has a swimming pool and a quite good restaurant. Had requested a better room with a jacuzzi but they didn't have that available although promised earlier. During the winter the room was cold and everything seemed a bit old, kind of reminded me of a eastern european hotel of the 70's. The breakfast service was noting special. Overall I was glad that I stayed here just one night, the price is too high for such a place.
Probably the only hotel in the city that has an outdoor swimming pool.

Hostal HC: Cheap hostal in the centre of town
This is a pleasant hostel/hotel in the centre of Tacna. Our room was clean and huge with a bathroom and hot water.
The hotel is secure as you need to be buzzed in to get in. This is great, except when they don't hear you and you have to wait a while to be let in. To be fair it only happened once.
It was really cheap.
