Hotel Monasterio del Cusco: Hotel Monasterio del Cusco

$ (US) 200

As the name suggests, it's a converted monastery from 300 years ago. Rooms are simply adequate; it's the experience you'll cherish.

Probably the best rooms & facilities in town. Picture shown is the view from our room. Geared to business travelers; no big conventions.

Hotel Marani: Hotel Marani

$12 single with bathroom

Charming hotel and owners. Hot water and in a very nice area of Cusco, it is reasonably priced. For some reason it doesn't appear in many of the guidebooks. It has beautiful rooms situated around a lovely courtyard. It is safe and quite and also has a great breakfast.

Hostal Posada Hispana: Hostal Posada Hispana

US$10

Very small hotel run by a spanish man who also speaks English. This receives high recommendations in the travel guides and deserves it, however as a consequence it gets full, so reserve in advance. Very safe and hot water.

Hostal Resbalosa: Hostal Resbalosa

This hostel is about a 5 minute walk from the main square and it seems that not many people know about it. This is probably because you have to climb up about 40 steps to reach it which is very knackering.
However, the climb is worth it because they have a terrace which overlooks the whole city. It really is a fantastic view (will add photo soon) and shows Cuzco in a better light than normal. Spent several days sitting on the terrace, drinking beers, preparing ourselves for the Inca Trail...

In Cusco, I stayed at the Gran Hostal Macchu Picchu, this was $8.50 per night(after bargaining!) I think the address is 282 Quera.
$8.50 USD per night.

Nothing special, may need a fresh coat of paint, but great people...

Sheraton: Sheraton

The rooms are much smaller than at the Oro Verde and the price is much smaller also. It provides American standards for a hotel, a casino, and nightlife.

You can stay at a simple hotel...

You can stay at a simple hotel en route to Machu Picchu. Generally people sleep on the floor in their sleeping bags. However, a room can be rented for approximately 20 soles a night per person. But rooms are very limited here.

For others, you can sleep under the starry sky in your sleeping bag!!!!!!! And it's jolly fun taking a bath by the river too!!!!!!! You ought to try it someday. ;->

Hostal Amaru: Hostal Amaru

$17 per night - not the least expensive in the area by any means, but well worth the extra expense, in my opinion.

Great rooms, great views, hot water, lovely garden and friendly staff. I had two different rooms there and they were both big, clean and comfortable. This picture is of me in my room.

Actally there are two:
1. At ICA (coast South of Lima) the 'DUNAS', a wonderful sensational ressort (5 stars)
2. At Cuzco yhe Hotel LIBERTADOR in a building where one Pizarro lived (5 stars)
None of the above is cheap. Rates are extremely high but you get quality. Become affordable in Group.

1. DUNAS: the general equipment and the architecture as well the general aspect, the gardens, the pools, the pond, the dune.. as the interior.
2. Sober exterior with class. Goes well with the general aspect of Cuzco. The interior is luxurious. The services are impeccable.

Here is also another picture...

Here is also another picture of the Marriott Hotel. The picture below it, is the area around a Golf course in San Isidro, where I rented an apartament the last time, I was in Lima. There are plenty of very nice apartments to rent in Lima. This is very convenient if you are staying for more than a week. You need to check in the local English paper or in the internet.
Apartment prices will range from $30 to $150 a day, depending on the size and location. Some of them come with a cleaning service.

Another thing to remember is that the San Isidro area is a much better police protected area, than other parts of the city. They have a very efficient 'serenazgo service'. Which is more readily available for your protection. This is sort of a parallel police unit, that kind of helps around.

Lima and Cuzco has some great...

Lima and Cuzco has some great five stars hotels, of course there are plenty of three and four stars hotels in most of the major cities and principal tourist destinations. The Marriott Hotel just open in Miraflores with 300 first class rooms, and a casino. The Lima Sheraton is in downtown Lima, with about 400 rooms, and also has a casino, it is a good location for exploring the old center of the city. There are quite a bit of three stars establishments in Miraflores, if you go in the internet and look for Peru, you will find lots of nice and comfortable hotels. Here is a picture of 'El Portal del Marquez' hotel in Cajamarca, where I stayed in August of 2001. Wonderful place, full of character and beauty.
About $25 to $35 a night.

Plenty of hot water, clean and beautiful gardens, friendly staff.
