by grets A bus is waiting to take us to the hotel for some much needed sleep. The hotel looks very welcoming all bathed in lights, with a U-shaped drive and cottages spread around the grounds. Each cottage holds six rooms on two floors, with en suite bathroom, mini bar, cable TV, in-house safe and (over) efficient air conditioning. Central attraction is the swimming pool with its adjacent open air restaurant where we take breakfast the following morning. Guesthouse Twenty4 by DSwede This is a very clean and comfortable hostel/guesthouse. They offer clean and comfortable beds, with linens, towels, etc. Rooms are 15 EUR per night each person. There are private sinks in each room, but shared toilets and shower (which are cleaned daily).
Breakfast is served in the lower patio for 4 EUR. The location is great. It is on a very quiet street so there is no road noise or hassles, yet you are only a ~5 minute walk from the central plaza. Paramaribo has a number of modern hotels with air conditioning, but advance booking is essential owing to the limited number of beds. A ten per cent service charge is added. There are several small guest-houses and pensions in the city and elsewhere but it is advisable to check with the tourist office for further information. Hotels and restaurants are rare outside the capital, and travellers are advised to bring their own hammock and food. Theme: Hotel

While I have stayed at 3-4 other hotels in Paramaribo, ECO Resort - which belongs to Hotel Torarica - is a smaller, newer facility, primarily used by business people. They offer free airport shuttle, which is a good thing, since flights sometime arrive into "Parbo" at ridiculous times like 2:00AM. The rooms are quite clean and roomy, a very decent buffet breakfast is served on an informal "patio" overlooking a (typically muddy) river. You also get free access to the pool and aerobics/gym facilities at the Torarica. You feel safe and moving around is easy and central.
(1) When you are in Suriname, feeling safe and secure is important, and you get this here. (2) Also, Suriname offers jungle trips and lots of eco-tourism and hotel staff will help you connect with tours. (3) PLEASE do not waste any time: eat as much Javanese food that you can!! Sate, sambal, bami, etc. etc. Do not feel guilty! Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: About 1 hours drive from the Airport, but that is only because the airport is far from the city centre and everything else.
