Punta del Este with a young child

by cnilson

My husband and I will be visting Punta del Este (staying at the Rincon del Este) in November with our daughter, who will be 18 months old. I'd love some suggestions on fun things to do with young children. She loves the beach, but are there other things to see and do that are child-friendly? Also, is it acceptable to take her to restaurants in the evening? She dines out with us frequently at home and is very well-behaved, but is it the custom to take children out to dinner?

Thanks for your help!

I dont know in Uruguay, but in Argentina most restaurants have small elevated chairs for the little kids going with their parents. Excepting the case of a very fancy restaurant, I think it will be OK. After all, uruguayos and argentinos are almost the same in family culture.

Yes, it's common to go out with small children. You can take her to restaurants. Most probably she'll be given a special chair (depends on the restaurant).

Travel Tips for Punta del Este

The old light house

by Frisbeeace

Built in 1860, it was first installed at the Isla de los Lobos in 1858 but the local fishermen insisted that the light was bothering the sea wolves and so it was moved to the peninsula.

It has a height of 44 mts, lighting up to 11 miles and a 43,000 candels of light intensity. It flashes twice every 8 seconds. Volcanic ashes brought from Italy were used for its construction. It was rebuilt in 1923.

The area is one of the quietest and with the most incredible view in Punta del Este.

Punta del Este in Winter

"Ghost Town"

Do not go to Punta del Este in August. There is no one there and many of the stores and restaurants are closed. It looks like it would be a wonderful, happening place to be in summer, and the beaches are nice and clean. Not worth the trip in the cold, though!
