"Punta del Este, Uruguay"
For the past 50 years Punta del Este has been the vacation location of choice for the Argentinian and Uruguayan upper middle classes, but it remains fairly unknown to the rest of the world (with the exception of a handfull of celebrities and international jet-setters). A sleepy seaside town during the year, it comes to life during January and February when the population swells with vacationers looking for sun and fun. Punta del Este offers a little bit of everything to everybody: packed beaches near the peninsula to see and be seen but also long emtpy stretches of ocean beaches just minutes to the East for those looking for peace and quiet. Casinos, concerts and non-stop nightlife as well as intimate world class restaurants. Our favorite time of the year to visit is early March, with pleasant weather and the summer crowds gone you pretty much have the whole town to yourself. And the sunsets..... are just priceless.
