Dollars in Punta del Este

by olgacoleman

I had read that American money is well accepted and brings a better return. What size bills would you recommend? Is this also the case in Colonia, Montevideo, and Buenos Aires? Thanks for your help.

I have been to buenos aires a couple of times and colonia in uruguay and I didn't see anyone accepting US dollars at all, nor were there any signs or price tags indicating that US dollars would be accepted.

bring your USD they will take them (also Euro) also at supermarket.
Some NOT ALL expenses like hotels, shopping, renting.. the price is directly in USD
Colonia and Punta del Este (I never tryed in Montevideo) they bring also ARS.
in any case do expect the change in local currency both Countries, Argentina and Uruguay.

Hi,

USD, Euro, Arg.Pesos and Reais (BRA) are well accepted in Punta del Este, specially USD. You may also find better exchange rates paying directly in USD than in Uru Pesos. Even you can withdraw USD directly from ATM's in Uruguay.
Some places don't take bills bigger than USD 50 or 20 for 2 main reasons: 1) the USD 100 bill is the most common to be false; and 2) for the change in some minor shops (McD. for example).

Regards,

Rafa

Casa Pueblo

by realde14

Casa Pueblo, built by Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez Villaro, is built on a hill, overlooking the ocean.Because of its whitewashed style and sheer size, it seems abit surreal.

The views of the sunset are perfect from here are perfect.

There is also a gallery, a restaurant, as well as hotel rooms for rent at the Casa Pueblo.
