Casa Pueblo: Hotel/workshop of artist

Casa Pueblo was everything that I had imagined it to be. It sits on a cliff facing west, overlooking the sea.
It does not have a straight line in its interior, its coloring and setting make it appear Arabian or Mediterranean.
The artist, Carlos Paez Vilaro, built it with the help of family and friends, without a plan over a period of 36 yrs.

I would recommend staying here or at least going through the artists workshop.

Lovely sea views, birds hang out on the rocks. There are two pools and a spa. Yoga classes on the lawn by the sea. Photographers challenge. Artist workshop.

Hostels

Sleeping in Punta del Este

We stayed at several different places aroud Punta del Este, some better than others!! We stayed in a house close to the beach that wasnt very clean and had a leaky roof. Be sure you check out the place you are staying before you pay for it. However, the people in Uruguay are really friendly and eager to help.

Hotel Casapueblo: Casapueblo

One of the most unique accomodation options near Punta del Este. Have stayed there several times over the last 10 years and we keep going back just for the location. While the facilities and service are not 5 star, the location, and the sunsets are definitely 5 stars. They have hotel type rooms available and also 1-3 bedroom apartments (recommended). Best time to go: early March - the weather is still very nice, the summer crowds are gone, and the prices drop considerably. However, if you want to rub elbows with the international jet-set crowd in Punta del Este, then by all means go in January.
CONS: it is 10-15 minutes away from Punta del Este by car. Taxis are available but it is better to rent a car.

The sunsets from your balcony! and the sound of the waves

Hilton Conrad: PDE's most famous 5-star hotel

The Conrad is a large hotel with pleny of services including the most famous Casino in South America. It's style is modern, fancy but not very classy. It overlooks the Mansa beach which is nice but not the best in PDE. It is within walking distance from the main street downtown, restaurants and shopping areas. Very recommended for a short visit. It made a very nice stay for me.

Nice and large american style rooms with ocean view. Continental breakfast, pool and spa usually included in the package. Great food and service. Modern Vegas-type casino.

The promotion includes air ticket from Buenos Aires to PDE, transfers, 3 days/2 nights in a double room, breakfast and spa for only USD 149 (weekdays) or USD 199 (weekends) plus taxes. Find this package at their web page clicking the "Escapes" tab.
