PdE for New Year's 2009

by eri3399

I'm traveling to Punta del Este for New Year's with 2 other girls and 2 guys between the ages of 25 and 32. Any suggestions on places to go on New Year's Eve? We're rolling with some pretty big baller's and want an upscale, classy night. Suggestions?

OK big ballers....try these......d;o)

Although they do tours to the hottest clubs, these guys can tailor make whatever you want. Simply let them know that you are indeed big ballers, and for a price the sky is the limit!

Bikini Beach is the place to hang out and do remember that nothing really pops until around 1 or 2 am. Like the locals say: "You can always sleep during winter!"

As for hotels in the big baller category, the Conrad Punta del Este Resort and Casino, is in the heart of everything, and the Mantra Punta del Este is in La Barra on a hilltop.

Questions about dates, flights

by montalais

Greetings, all.

While staying in Buenos Aires this summer, I will have a choice of a 4-day trip to Punta del Este out of three weekends: November 28, December 19, or January 16. How do they compare in terms of weather, nightlife, and hotel availability?

Expedia offers round-trip flights from Buenos Aires for US$300. Can I get a better price through a South American travel agency?

Does anyone know a website with a listing or review of La Barra hotels?

January 16 would be in the height of the "season" in PdE. As for airfares you might try Pluna http://www.flypluna.com/? they are pricing a bit less than $300 USD for January.

As for hotels depends on how much you want to spend. If you want tres cher Mantra Punta del Este, member of the Leading Hotels of the World which means also Leading Prices of the World too :) Very nice but not as expensive would be Hotel La Bluette, if you are on somewhat of a budget my recommendation would be Hotel Remanso, it is not in La Barra but La Mansa very close to the two main beaches. Should be priced around $100USD a night. There are a lot of bad hotels in PdE so be wary. As for reliable ratings I would just post questions here once you get your selection narrowed down. Trip Advisor can be OK but not the best. The New York Times seems to like La Posta del Cangrejo http://www.lapostadelcangrejo.com/elhotel.php and the price seems good too for the location.

This is a good all around website for PdE http://www.puntadeleste.com/

Have fun and hope this helps

Hi,

In terms of weather and nightlife, definitively 16th January. On the other hand, the highest the season, th lowest the availability and more pricey.

The range of hotels in PDE is huge, and january is the peak of the season, so try to start your search as soon as possible because later will be more difficult.

As prvious poster said, try to narrow your hotel range and where you prefer to stay depending on your preferences (beach, nightlife, quiet place, etc.)

Enjoy,

Rafa

Thanks for your replies.

Is there anything going on Wednesday nights? I'm trying to decide whether to go there for 3.5 days or 4.5.

It would be much like South Hampton or East Hampton mid week. Busy but not as busy as it would be on the weekends. The one big difference is the number of hotels in PdE so there will always be a crowd during the season. In fact you might find it more enjoyable having a few days before the weekend to enjoy the town. You will not be bored.
