Staying in PdE during New Years Eve and January 2007

by xantylaol

Hi!

I'm already planing ahead to go to Punta del Este at the end of the year and stay for about a month. I understand La Barra is the most fun area to stay in for somebody around 30 years old and who likes to go out most nights to meet people, eat at good restaurants and have fun? By the way, is the downtown area not so exciting?

I would like to rent an apartment or a house - though I only need two or three rooms or so. It should preferably have an internet connection - alternatively are there any good cafes or simillar where you can hook up your laptop?
I would like the accomodations to be nice though luxurious isn't necessary. What is the best place to make a good deal to rent something like that?

I hope you are able to help me out a little - thanks :)

Chris

Hi Chris,

La Barra is a great place. The real nightlife of Punta is there. Downtown area has a more "familiar" environment, although the port area is very exciting also.

To find a house or apartment as you want, try http://www.verdemar.com.uy/index.php or google some other real state agents in Punta del Este.

Enjoy,

Rafa

Hi Rafa!

Thanks for your input! I was hoping for a few more posting information on where to be and what's to see - but hey - it seems La Barra is the place :)

mypinares - sorry for my late response - somehow I seem to have missed your writings. Thanks for offering your help! However, I have been forced to change plans and will not be able to visit PdE this winter. However, I hope to get there maybe next year or thereafter during the same time of year. I hope to be able to exploit your offer to give me some tips then.

romana84 - as you can see above - I have been forced to change my plans and haven't really concluded on any options in PdE. Some tips are listed on other peoples VT websites and you can try to check those out.

For your convenience - you can check out www.vivapunta.com/backpacker/ which is located in La Barra. Don't know the place but I've heard it's allright.

Regards

Chris

Travel Tips for Punta del Este

Late dinner

by kyoub

People in Uruguay have the same customs as other South American countries, they eat late.
Most restaurants close after lunch and do not open to serve dinner until 9pm.
I believe that is why lunch is their largest meal. That is why it was usually our only meal.

Beautiful Punta

"The other side of the river"

Although I live really close to Punta del Este, I had never been there before. My girlfriend has an apartment there and we went together for 3 days in November 2005. I know... November isn't the right time for the beach, but it was really quiet and I loved that. On the other hand, many places were closed because they were being remodelled for the high season. Anyway, I loved the city, and will surely go back more often now.
