Palacio de Justicia, funny story....
by Chiil
There's a story that goes along with this building. Supposedly it's been under construction for the past 40 years, back before my parents came to Chicago from Uruguay.
There's a story that says a diplomatic dignitary from some middle eastern country came to visit the Plaza, when the building had no windows. 10 years later, he visited Montevideo again and noticed the building was still not complete (because there were no windows). Supposedly, some bankers all contributed to have windows put on the building to give it the illusion that it was complete. However, it still remains in the same state, uncomplete!
Endless discussions
by Shakermaker
In Uruguay we are very democratic and love to have discussions about politics. Last year a left wing party got the presidency for the first time and celebrations exploded all over the country (specially in Montevideo). I hope this government takes wise decitions so every Uruguayan has dignity and work.
Yemanjá (2)

The devotees of Yemanjá or Iemanjá), Godess of the Sea, give her offerings on February 2nd; flowers, candles, combs, even jewels, are deposited into small boats, at the sea; the presents usually are white and sky blue, which are her colours. If she accepts the presents, the boat goes into the sea; if she does not, the boat is returned...
hoy te vienen a entregar,

The heart of Montevideo is easy to walk around about. As you do, keep your eyes open as surprises await on each street. Here is but one small example, high on a wall near Garcia's museum - a bit of his work for all to see.
Sh... Listen!

Montevideo is a common city, with people, traffic, buildings, hustle and bustle... but it has an unique quality: you can see and HEAR birds!!!! And I can assure you this is just wonderful... when you wake up in the morning and you hear their sings!
I took this picture at my backyard... that little bird was standing on the fence.
