BA - Montevideo - Colonia - BA - Ferry Bus Combo

by wabat

Hi I have had a look at Buquebus and Colonia express sites and cant clearly work out if I can do following

1. Fast Ferry - Bus BA to Montevideo --- no problem on both sites
2. Bus from Montevideo - early morning to Colonia and then evening fast ferry back to BA. - not sure if I can do this - if you take a particular bus from MV to Colonia are you tied to next ferry.

Clearly I could take any bus from Montevideo by any company and just buy ferry ticket from Colonia to BA.

What Im hoping to do is take advantage of Colonia express returns which may let me do the lot for $165 .. one way tickets seem much more costly.

Not sure if i have explained this well but lets see what people think ?
Thank you in advance

I think you can do that (if I understood correctly what you tried to explain). I think you have to buy the ticket for the early morning ferry and once in Colonia change it for the later one.
Enjoy your trip.

Travel Tips for Montevideo

The Old Town

by Bjorgvin

Visit the Old Town (Ciudad Vieja) with its narrow winding streets and 18th century buildings. In the heart of the Old Town are Plaza Constitición and the old town hall (cabildo) and the cathedral, the Stock Exchange and the Customs House all worth visiting. - An archway at the west end of Plaza de la Independencia, a part of the old city wall, marks the entrance to Ciudad Vieja.

The tamboril (small drum) it is a typical instrument to play candombe, the Afro-Uruguayan music. There are three kinds of tamboriles: chico (small), repique (chime) and piano. A good cuerda (band) has a lot of them, and they sound so strong that you feel the vibrations of the ground.
African people were brought to Montevideo (and all America) as slaves; they brought with them their culture, and of course, their music.
You can listen (and dance) candombe at several places.
The picture shows some "real" tamboriles and some ornamental ones.
"Ayer te vi
ayer te vi
ayer te vi con el rostro cansado
de tanto llorar.
Ayer te vi
ayer te vi
ayer te vi con los ojos abiertos
sin poder mirar.
No te vas a morir
porque a vos te dé la gana
y vení a candombear
a las tres de la mañana.
Y después me contás si seguís
alimentando penas
o si pudo por fin el candombe
tus penas matar.

chilly evenings

If there's one thing I've learnt by living in this city it's that no matter how hot it is you should always have a swater with you. This is cause even if it's over 30 °C the temperatures always drop when the evening comes, specially if you are near the sea.

Off centre

If you leave downtown, you will find nice places which are often unknown for tourists. One of those places is Villa Colón, an old district, with ancient mansions of late 19th century. The most famous is Castillo de Idiarte Borda (Idiarte Borda's Castle); he was a President, and ordered its construction at 1897; he died before the house was finished.
You can visit the house and gardens, and on Saturdays and Sundays, have tea.
