Montevideo's Best
The radisson is located in the main Plaza in Montevideo it is a large hotel and also houses the best casino in Montevideo.
The reception area has a grandure about it similar to what you would find in Spain's newer but grander hotels, the reception is well staffed and your luggage leaves you the moment you leave your taxi.
As you progress up the small stairway in the reception you shall notice the shops and display cabinets which only tourists could afford to purchase from, up the stairway you are surrounded by a glass atrium which has obviouslty been added when the hotel was refurbished, this has seating and tables where you can take coffee, tea and light snacks etc or just sit and enjoy a beer and listen to the background music usually Mr Sinatra type music, but not overpowering by any means.
As you reach the lifts you will notice also an entrance to the Victoria casino upper level, the rooms vary dependant on what you choose to pay for, but in general are of a good standard and clean, smoking rooms are available as are business class rooms if you request and upgrade, I stayed inone of the smaller suites which was more than ample for one and would be just as adequate for couples and even with small children . The bath and shower are sufficient and clean and a good supply of towels are in the room along with the usual shower gel, hairdryer and so on.
Ther are mini bars in all the rooms stocking the usual Johnnie Walkers, Rum Vodka etc and a few local beers with fruit juice and soft drinks. Ice buckets are provided and ice can be obtained through room service.
One immediate thing you will notice is the missing tea and coffee making facilities which are usually standard in hotels across the world, but it is possible to have these brought to the room although I did not request this service, it maybe woth checking this out.
On the 25th Floor is the hotel's main restaurant and this is also where guests have breakfast which is a buffet of the usual suspects. (room service is available 24 hours a day)
The dinner menu is quite varied but does not change every day, so be prepared to see the same dishes, but they are cooked well and are substantial portions, and although it is a little longer wait than perhaps global travellers are used to, the service is decent and the staff are friendly and polite.
Overall the hotel is of a good standard and for those of us who travel the world staying in hotels, it is not the number one, it is more than pleasant and has all the services etc we expect of our homes away from home.
I should point out that I stayed in the hotel for an extended period and much longer than most visitors would be staying
Unique Quality: On the 6th Floor is the swimming pool. spa and hairdressers for both men and women, the pool is large and more than adequate for a morning or evening swim and swimming aids are provided for children and adults who are not strong swimmers, but the pool is fairly shallow with the deepest being just over the 6 foot depth, there is no diving etc so it is quite a tranquil area and an outside area is adjacent for the sun worshippers.
