Fortin de San Miguel: Stone building in an amazing setting

The hotel was built in the 1940's, at the time of the reconstruction of the nearby Santa Teresa fortress and San Miguel fort, using the same kind of stones. The rooms are spacious, with country-style woodwork; all the chairs are done in cow hide. The best feature is the park which has kept the rocks and indigenous flora. From the hotel terraces and from the swimming pool you can see the vast countryside, cattle, birds.

The amenities are simple: the rooms do not have telephones or internet connection. On the other hand, the staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Most people have dinner at the hotel; there are no sophisticated restaurants nearby.

I would strongly recommend this hotel to people who want to get away from city life and sounds, who enjoy nature and silence. However it is not the place for people who are in a hurry or require the services of city life. This is a place for relaxing. I would very much like to stay there again.

This hotel is in a completely unique location, with an ample view over the nearby wetlands and walking distance of rocky hills and protected natural areas. The historic fort is on the next hill.

The stone building is also quite extraordinary.
