Sheraton Montevideo Hotel: Nice inclusive hotel in Montevideo

This hotel was very nice; it made a North American feel very much at home. It is attached to a large shopping mall built in an old jail. Very interesting.

I believe the hotel has exercise facilities, as well as computer/internet access. I had a great view of the ocean/bay/river from my room.

Jandaia Hotel & Servicios: Uruguay/Brazil border town

Mostly the location of the hotel in the border town of Rivera (Uruguay) makes this hotel and location unique. They apparently speak a local dialect that is a combination of Portuguese and Spanish (Portosol?). Businesses will take Brazilian reals or Uruguayan pesos. There's also a good winery nearby, where we had dinner one evening. The hotel was nice, though basic.

Posada del Rio: Lodging in Colonia

This place was wonderful, and at $10 US, a real bargain. It had a central courtyard, breakfast on the porch, and a view (sort of ) of the water.

Facal Hotel: Great little hotel in Montevideo

In May 1999, we stayed and had our meeting at the Facal Hotel in Montevideo. Our room rate was US $42.98 including breakfast.

This hotel has an attached café/restaurant, as well as air conditioning.

The hotels are nice for what...

The hotels are nice for what they are and what city you may be in. In Salto (area where they have thermal pools) The cost of a hotel is very reasonable and so are the accomidations. In Punta Del Este there are five star hotels that cater to the rich and very famous. What you get is dependant upon the type of tourist that travels to that city.
Salto 30.00
Punta Del Este 250.00

Small hotel in Salto had a pool that was fed from the natural spring.

Montevideo:

Most hotels are...

Montevideo:

Most hotels are along 18 de Julio, the main street through the center of the city, or on streets near it. Some are expensive; you should be able to find a good place for less than $40 a night. Stay out of the Ciudad Vieja (Old town or historical district), its not a nice neighborhood.

Hotel Kaldi is a good place, $25 per night, private bath and cable. In the Barrio sur, on calle Ejido. Hotel California and Hotel Richmond are closer to the center, on San Jose, about $40 per night

Aldea Marina and Cabañas Sierras del Mar
Approximately US$30 per night. (prices will fluctuate depending on season and current exchange rate)
