Club Hotel Casapueblo: COMPLETE HOTEL INFO

by schurlif

If you can read the price list ( or try a magnifying glass... lol.. it works...) , observe that no way I could click on any price range.... According to the season the cheapest accomodation is U$ 72 for the standard apartment for two , no breakfast.... all the way up to U$ 825 for the hotel suite for four people , breakfast included.

That means a price range from U$ 36 to U$ 206.25 per person per day....

THE unique quality is definitely the outside architecture... Sorry , I don't know what the hotel looks like from the inside.... but the leaflets are pretty informative....
Sorry they're not better readable and too bad there's no option to zoom in on a picture....

Club Hotel Casapueblo: Club hotel with interesting architecture

by schurlif

Well....(lol) , I stayed alltogether like 2 minutes there...... exactly the time it took me to ask for the hotel leaflet.. for the VT community to check it out.....
It's clearly visible that it is a true 5 star hotel, albeit in a somewhat secluded area....
All further infos re the hotel itself in the next tip...
These pictures here were taken from the museum terrace, they should give you a fairly good idea what the place looks like from the outside and what it might look inside.....

Meliá Confort Montevideo: Hotel room with Camila decoration.....

by schurlif

Now a few pics of the hotel rooms interior .... Again , as in almost all my hotel tips , pictures of Camila really , but appropriate for showing some of the rooms features... of which otherwise I wouldn't take any pictures , right..? So , I really hope you can "stomach" Camilas view while looking at the more interesting interior of the room......(lol.... not everybody bears my sense of humor though....)
Pic # 1: the nice and comfty king size ( or was it queen size...? can't remember) bed....
Pic # 2: ooooops... that's not the room , that's breakfast time..... good starter for the day.....
Pic # 3: partial view of the american type bathroom...
Pic # 4: the room door with fire escape plan and mirror to admire oneself.....
Pic # 5: room furniture , Camilas red suitcase and , hey !! isn't that picture on the wall hanging crooked..??

All in all , a very nice room , room service was quick and efficient , Latin American MTV stations highly appreciated.....

Thumbs up !

Hmmmmmm. I believe I wrote about this allready in my first hotel tip......
The not unique but VERY important quality is the comfort of the room..... and there was more than enough of it.....

Meliá Confort , Montevideo: excellent middle class hotel in nice surroundings

by schurlif

I'm a Meliá fan and I know what Meliá Sol Hotels ( a splendid spanish hotel chain ) have to offer.... This one in Montevideo had all the class and style of the others that I knew , yet it seemed a bit isolated , there was very little movement, which of course didn't bother us at all.....
I don't actually know their prices because we simply took a weekend package , flight, hotel with breakfast, airport-hotel-airport transportation and insurance during the trip included... It was pretty cheap , I thought , like packages ought to be.....
There's not really much to say besides that the room was very comfty, the breakfast was excellent, the two computers with internet access in the lobby area were convenient and the surroundings of the hotel were nice and interesting.... see the following tips too....
Picture 1: the "key envelope" , with all necessary infos to get in touch with and find the hotel..
Picture 2: the Meliá Confort Logo , as in front of any of their hotels....
Picture 3: entrance to the hotel
Picture 4: the lobby bar
Picture 5: the restaurant for dinner and breakfast

This is difficult because there were no real outstanding features , no pool , no great views nor special facilities.....
What makes this hotel worthwhile is the comfort and tranquility of the room and the nice surroundings to explore.....
see further tips....
( btw , it is supposedly the first hotel in Uruguay with ISO 9001 quality certificate ).

El Fortin De Sanata Rosa: Lovely little secret in Uruguay

by loscooks

We travelled by ferry from Buenos Aires on several occassions to spend the weekend in Fortin. Usually 3 or 4 coupes some with children. The adults kicked back and relaxed while the kids loved the white sandy beach close by and the waves on what is actually the estuary of the Rio de la Plata although it looks like the ocean. The sand was much appreciated as the river banks are mud on the Argentine side.

This is a charming older boutique hotel. We loved the food, the staff and the ambiance. The setting is beachside in a quiet section between Montevideo and Punta del Este. You can drive by and not see it so look out for the sign.

In general, the Uruguayans are cheerful and welcoming despite their country's modest economic performance. They provide a good reception so you want to go back, as we did.

Posta del Cangrejo: Punta del Este - Boutique Hotel

by realde14

La Posta del Cangrejo is in La Barra outside of Punta Del Este and is a small boutique hotel with whitewashed walls and blue windows.

This is also one of the best restaurants to eat in Punta Del Este/Barra

Hotel Lafayette: Affordable Luxury...sort of

by jmcnally

We had originally booked into somewhere much cheaper, but found we didn't have our own bathroom, so we quickly found the Hotel Lafayette. The rooms were clean, although sometimes the a/c didn't work and once the handle in the shower fell off. But after a very long flight, it was wonderful. Breakfast was very good each morning, also.

The front desk staff (all men, to my knowledge) were always gracious and helpful, though only a few spoke more than a few words of English.

Doubles were US$62/night (Suites were US$82, but don't bother, they just have more furniture)

Free wireless, though it's not advertised. In fact, when I asked for an internet connection, the front desk sold me a card that could only be used on the PC in the "Business Center" downstairs. When I discovered that there was at least one wireless router installed in the hallway, I rejoiced!

La Casa de Charo: Big homey house in Colonia

by Marie-France

I stayed here for three nights at the beginning of my trip to Uruguay, and one night at the end, on my way out. It's a big house located in the centre of the new town, about 10 minutes walk from the old town. Charo, the very friendly lady owner, can usually be found in the clothing store next door, which she also owns.

The house has a variety of rooms. The first time I lucked out and got a huge room with bathroom, and even a little kitchen with table and fridge! If I remember well, it was only US $7 a night! The second time I got a tiny room without bathroom for something like $4 or $5.

Not much in terms of breakfast (possibly some dry pastry and orange drink if you're lucky); better to get something in town.

Quiet, centrally located place. Very friendly and congenial owner. Possibility of getting a big room for a few dollars!

The shared bathroom is HUGE!!!

Hotel Colon, Piriapolis: Like a little castle

by Marie-France

I didn't stay at this hotel, because it was fully booked by the time I arrived in Piriapolis. You probably have to book ahead to stay here, because it's so pretty and such good value for all the amenities you get. I was quoted $25 US for a single room, the same price I paid for a blah room at a so-so hotel down the road!

It's right across from the beach on the main street in Piriapolis.

Unique architecture (!). Art display inside. Indoor pool. Restaurant.

Barcelo Club del Lago: Gorgeous, Out-of-the-way Hotel

by jem126

The Barcelo Club is a chain hotel in South America. Barcelo Club del Lago is located near Lago Sauce just outside of Punta Del Este. Its has the most incredible view of the lake, indoor and outdoor pools (the outdoor one has a bar IN the pool) and there is also a golf course, although that wasnt really my interest. It is between Montevideo and Punta Del Este-- the main two cities in Uruguay so you get the best of both worlds while staying in a very serene spot. The only drawback is that you have to take a taxi to town and the rates can differ wildly.
