Has had some fire and location issues in past
Some friends stayed here for a couple months while moving to Caracas. They liked it because it was more "homey" than a hotel. The area is a nice one most of the time....Altamira has shopping and restaurants within walking distance. I feel perfectly safe walking and driving in this area right now.
A couple years ago, however, the area was not as safe--Altamira Plaza is one of the well known "Opposition" gathering spots in Caracas, and the plaza was the one in the news with the shooting death of opposition protesters in 2003. Many people still gather in the plaza today, and it is now safe for all.
The hotel itself had an instance of fire in 2002, and the fire safety equipment did not work. I do not know if the hotel has fixed this problem or not, but it is something that should be looked into if you are staying there.
Today, I would feel perfectly fine staying in this hotel IF they have fixed the fire safety problem. I have heard it is a very nice hotel.

Very 70´s
Nice compound, higher class clientel, with nice sized suites. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The furniture wasnt my taste though. Very 70´s I would say.
Unique Quality: Perfect location, nice view on the upper level, good business services.

caracus hotel
Anyone got any info about the hotel altamira in caracus. Planning on spending a couple of nights here and was wondering if its in a safe part of town.

Altamira is a nice zone. It is one of the wealthier zones in town and, consequently, relatively safe.

Yes, Hotel Altamira its in a very good location , safe area and with very good team of police.
Near the metro Station, and plenty of restaurants and Shppings centers.
Hope you enjoy your days here.
I have a dude, Altamira suites or Intercontinental Altamira you mean??? Both are good!

Hotel Altamira is in a very safe area. It is in a very quiet residential area of Caracas. However, it is not super near to a metro, to attractions, or to shopping malls. Other hotels in good areas that you should also look at are Embassy Suites, The Hotel, The Marriott, and Hotel Melia.

Oooopss! Was thinking of Hotel Avila. Not heard of Hotel Altamira... agree with the last posting that you probably mean Altamira Suites (Embassy Suites).

UKMAGICMAN, i guess you didnt know Hotel Altamira, or Altamira Suites......
They are very close to metro station !!!
You mentioned Hotel Avila, it isnt in Altamira area, its located in San Bernardino, and this Avila Hotel, isnt near metro area or shoppings malls,,,,
Hotel Altamira its a non big Hotel , bit Altamira Suites its a suite type hotel and apartments full furnished.
