Be prepared for bedbugs in both Hotel Residencia Monserrat and Hotel La Floresta in Altamira, Caracas.
On the other hand they are very well situated in the city. It's a safe area, close to the metro and at night you can reach Las Mercedes (area for nightlife) for 4000 Bolivares in a taxi.

I´ve been there on my trip to Cuba,so I hadn´t time to see much.

I remember the airport didn´t have lockers so we had to carry our hand luggage around Caracas; we took the bus to the center, visited Simon Bolivar´s house and other spots, had lunch and returned to the airport.

When we returned from Cuba we had a free night in the beach hotel Meliá and stayed there all the time, it was a nice beach at that time.

In our last trip to Aruba we stayed one night before and other night after in Caracas. We stayed in Altamira, in the Hotel Floresta, it was the soccer world cup and venezuelan people made a big party to celebrate, we felt like home ( Brazil).I hope we could do a trip to see this beautiful country better someday...

Caracas nightlife?

by dontitochavez

A friend and I were hoping to enjoy our first night in Venezuela with a night out in Caracas. Any recommendations on good/safe nightlife areas and are there any cheap hotels in the area? Safety sounds like a big concern, even when using taxis. What would you recommend? Thanks!

Hi,

For a nightlife, bars, discotec, in caracas i recomend that you go to centro comercial San ignacio. here you would find diferent tipe of bar restaurant and it is safe.

were to stay i recomet the area of altamira, chacao it safe, in the av luis roche are tre o four hotel hcheap very good located (hotel la floresta, monserat)

whent using taxis, always call from a line, do not take the taxis from the streat, would be a littler more expensive but safe.

we have a exchange control, and we currently are chaging the our money then you will have to be carfuly to untedrtand the our currency, that way you do not get robbed, you can check may page to see more information or writte i will be glad to help

see you

Travel Tips for Caracas

be careful not to exert yourself until you are used to the altitude.

don't wear flashy jewellery or other obvious signs of wealth

Security

by travelife

Security remains a issue in Caracas. Even the guidebook advises you might get into touble with a small daypack in downtown Caracas. But since there is no historic site in the centre, you may easily avoid that area. Some luxurious hotels do exist in the centre but in that case you are not walking around you are taking a taxi from the hotel. 70% of Police force in this country are said to be corrupted and you are more likely to get into trouble instead of receiving help from them. But outside Caracas Venezuela is safe and people are very friendly, again, as the guidebook says!

Caracas or Caraca

by travelife

It may seem they say Caraca instead of Caracas. But VTer Kelly disagrees. She say it is indeed Caracas but with a very short and soft 's'. This is just a bit of change in the 'Spainsh' used in Latin America.
