American in Venezuela

Best place-EVER- at the time in 1999. I could not decide where I wanted to go on a trip so I put 7 places in a hat (no joke) and drew out Venezuela. It was the most hard core place I had ever been at the time. One month later (after we left) was when they had all the land slides where they collected the bodies from the aftermath at the airport... scary. Again, that I've said in my other posts. I took 8 years of German not Spanish so this was a difficult place to get around without that knowledge. HOWEVER... they do have a small Germantown up a funicular ride. I decided not to go, though. Venezuela was still an eye opener for me. At the time I had only been to Europe. I had never seen brush fire's, monkey's in the trees or live large crabs walking across the streets. Gas at the time was $35 cents a gallon.

Pretty good for the money for Caracas

The roooms are a little worn round the edges and a slight mit musty carpet smell but they are huge with living rooms and kitchenettes and cleaned every day.

Staff are friendly in the hotel and speak enough English to help.

The hotel is big and fairly modern.

Included breakfast is ok. Better on a weekday than on a weekend!!

Area around is litter strewn and chaotic during the day. It is fairly safe though, during the day depsite being dirty and litter strewn with lots of shops to look at the malls closeby are good. At night, though, the area is unsafe.

Unique Quality: Very close to metro to get around town.

Great value, dubious location

Friendly and helpful staff, easy access to subway and other transportation, good complimentary breakfast, very ample and clean room. Has all the basics, no frills (i.e. don't expect Pool, sauna, etc)

As everything in Caracas, very 70ish, somewhat tired looking.

Location on the Sabana Grande Boulevard is its biggest drawback, littered, full of homeless and drunkards, everything very run-down, kind of picturesque in a way but scary at night. Now wonder they close the access to S. Grande.

Unique Quality: Value and a very generously sized room.
