At night there's a clock at the side of the Rhine tower. Have a look in the evening and try to figure out how it works. I understood it but I'm not telling you - it's more fun to find out yourself! Little hint: This picture was taken at 6.49 p.m., 14 seconds before 6:50 p.m.!

Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth is in the north of Düsseldorf at the Rhine. It's a beautiful part of town with a lovely market square, a *** restaurant, a wonderful beergarden (Burghof) and the ruins of the emperial palatinate ("Kaiserpfalz") from the 9th century. It used to be the home for Emperor Barbarossa and was destroyed in the Spanish succession war later.

This is the park where the Aqua Zoo and the Japanese Gardens are located. The Japanese Gardens are rather small but quite cute, the Aqua Zoo is not really my cup of tea (too many stuffed animals and fishes). And the Nordpark is a nice place for a walk in the sun or a game of Boule.

Mettmann is a small town in the "Bergisches Land". It's the town I work in and I normally just see the same spots here ("our" villa and the local supermarket) but there's also a lovely Market Square with a big church surrounded by cute slate buildings here. The name Mettmann is a bit funny actually as the translation would be "Mince Meat Man". The christmas market on Mettmann's market square is one of the nicest ones I know because it is not commercialised as many others. Near Mettmann there's the Neanderthal .... the valley where the Neanderthalers came from. There's a Neanderthal Museum here which I still have only seen from the outside.

Lunaina Mon Jul 14, 2008 07:27 UTC Hi. Some nice pictures of your hometown, it has been over 15 years since my second visit to Dusseldorf, in november I will be back for some Christmasshopping and Rosenstolz concert!! | BillNJ Mon Jun 2, 2008 08:55 UTC Hi Sabs, hope you had a great time at the big Euromeet. You must be all VT-ed out, huh? Just letting you know that I finished my Düsseldorf page. I should have paid better attention to your tour (haha), but I still think it came out okay. Best, Bill | mavl Thu May 29, 2008 18:45 UTC ok, take care and have fun then (yes, i'm sure you'll have fun). if you have time (or if you get bored), drop me a note to let me know how it's going (and how i'm behaving as a VA). cheers! | slothtraveller Thu Apr 3, 2008 14:10 UTC Great page, Sabsi. I am researching for a stay in Dusseldorf later this summer. Can you tell me why there is no accommodation available at the end of May there? Does something happen at this time? |
