Il Casolare: The best pizza of Berlin?

Restaurant Name: Il Casolare
People say that this is the best pizza of Berlin and they might be right! Pizzas are very creative and taste excellent, the place is very nice and very Italian. It was quite cheap as well, at least compared to pizza places in Düsseldorf, I think there was no pizza more expensive than 8 € - and they weren't the usual ones but extravagant combinations!
Favorite Dish: Pizza with Parma ham and spicy Salami. Hmmm yummy!

Restaurant Name: Rocco und seine Brüder
Rocco und seine Brüder (named after Visconti's film "Rocco ei suoi fratelli") is another great place for Pizzas in Kreuzberg. The place is kinda basic but cosy. Staff is kinda stressed but friendly. The pizzas are kinda big but oh so tasty. A place to hang around for ages really. When we visited on a Saturday night it was very busy here. You can sit outside as well when the weather is nice.
Favorite Dish: I had pizza with mozzarella, rocket, parma ham and parmesan. It was very delicious and not expensive.

Joe Pena's Cantina y Bar: The best Fajitas

Restaurant Name: Joe Pena's Cantina y Bar
A very nice mexican restaurant in Kreuzberg with friendly service and table cloths to draw on. I only found out after having had the best fajita ever that this is a chain of restaurants. The other restaurants are in Frankfurt, Munich, Augsburg, Esslingen and Ljubljana (SLO).
Favorite Dish: The fajitas were the best I have ever had. We had chicken, pinapple, coconut ones and chicken/banana ones. The banana ones were to die for. Ever since then from time to time I ask in mexican restaurants whether they can add a banana to my chicken fajita - it fits perfectly!

For a Snack don't go to the well known and popular American restaurants such as McD or BK - there are better, cheaper, more filling snacks available in Berlin.
Favorite Dish: Get a Turkish Döner Kebab, they are the best and the cheapest in Germany (and probably Turkey!). Get a traditional Currywurst or a Bratwurst. Get a little slice of Pizza (the prices are the same for years - only the slices get smaller!)... Have a Falafel in Kreuzberg... Berlin is snack paradise!

I really liked this small self service bar near Winterfeldtplatz in Schöneberg. Service was friendy, the food was great and the prices were excellent. I could have stayed for ages, sitting outside, watching people and chat with my friend.
Favorite Dish: I had coleslaw, chicken burger (very tasty!) and chips (maybe the best chips ever!!! They were gorgeous ;) which was a very nice meal. It cost around 6 € which is a joke really :)

Die Henne: Book a table in advance!!! I warned ya!

Restaurant Name: Die Henne
The biggest disappointment of my latest stay in Berlin! We had been talking of having a chicken dinner here all day and when we got here as soon as the pub opened at 7pm all tables were booked. Apparently it's not possible to come here without having called first. The "Henne" is famous for its cooked chickens - apparently they are Berlin's best. And obviously everybody knows about it.... So let me tell you next time when I come to Berlin (and when we will reserve a table months in advance ;) how good they are. But maybe you can try them earlier than me?
Favorite Dish: A table would be nice for a start. They serve nothing but chickens and side dishes as potato salad or coleslaw by the way. So if you don't like chicken this isn't a place for you.

Cafe Schoenbrunn: Austrian food in an East German park cafe

Restaurant Name: Cafe Schoenbrunn
We came here on a sunny winter day in March 2006. The scenery and the menu really made me feel like being somewhere in the Alps, definitely not in Berlin. You could see the kids tobogganning down the hills of Friedrichshain. There were people sitting outside on the terrace which made me think they were enjoying a break from skiing. (Later we found out they were just waiting for a table inside ;) We were lucky to get a table even though this place is very popular on a Sunday afternoon. It was great to sit here for hours watching the people, craving for cake and watching the winter scenes outside. Very relaxing!
Favorite Dish: I had Wiener Schnitzel with warm potato salad which was nice but not really the large portion I needed after having been drinking the night before. It was tasty though. Strangely the food they serve in this Easter style cafe is Austrian. A very exotic mixture really. Prices were higher than average but in my opinion the location deserves it.
