  • Restaurant Name: Pikku Nepal

This tiny place in Annankatu was Gil's recommendation so we chose to go there the last evening I have been here for a pikku finaali.

The food here was great, not too spicy and staff was friendly even though we were holding up the whole show. Without us they could've closed the restaurant earlier I guess.

Favorite Dish: I had tandoori chicken something with peppers and spices. Along with the nice Naan bread as well as sauces and rice it was lovely and reasonably spicy.

    Via: Beautiful!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Via

This place with its beautiful interieur design looked very posh but luckily it wasn't. The people in here and the waiters aren't - loved it.

They serve Asian food (mostly Thai) and pasta and everything I tried was rather tasty!

The restaurant looks more expensive than it is by the way :)

Favorite Dish: I had a bruschetta (which actually was a garlic bread!) for starters and a thai chicken curry as main course. Both was delicious!

And I was there again in summer. This time I had a salad of rocket and new potatoes and a chicken pasta dish. Very nice as well!

    Cafe Esplanad: The biggest 'Pulla'
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Cafe Esplanad

Cafe Esplanad is a stylish selfservice cafe at Pohjoisesplanadi. They serve tasty food like pasta and salads as well as the best deserts in town. The pulla (little cake) here is the largest and best I know.

This place is very popular. You are lucky if you get a table when coming at popular times. Last time I was here there even was live music: A guy with a keyboard playing jazzy versions of popular songs - which was a bit strange.

Favorite Dish: A pulla, a drink, a newspaper and peoplewatching.

    Zetor: Leningrad Cowboys go restaurant
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Helsinki Zetor
  • Bigs and I at Zetor
  • by sabsi
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Restaurant Name: Zetor

Zetor is a wild and wonderful place which is hard to describe. Invented by the Leningrad Cowboys this place looks "real" countryside Finland. With lots of wood and tractors - hence the name Zetor which is a tractor factory. The design is amazing, a real Leningrad Cowboys style!

You can dance, drink or dine here - or then all of this. The food is Finnish mixed with Russian and very very nice actually. Even reading the menu is a great laugh!

Unfortunately this place is a bit on the expensive side. Paid 5.70€ for a Lonkero here which was a bit shocking. Food is expensive too but once you get used to the food prices in Helsinki it doesn't shock you any longer ;)

At the weekend it's supposed to be terrible here, but I've been there on an evening during the week twice and it was nice. There's loads of tourists here anytime though.

You can buy Zetor and Leningrad Cowboys Merchandise here, too.

Favorite Dish: The menu itself is really funny. There's a story about every dish there and some of them are very imaginative.

I had a "farmer's bread" which was pork on bread topped with cheese and mushrooms. Rather tasty. The others had tomato soup "a la Finnish army" which was served from an original army tin plate. Funny, I told ya ;)

Santa Fé: The best mexican I think
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Santa Fé

This is a very popular Mexican place. The food is better than in my other Mexican recommendation, Cantina West, but there the atmosphere is nicer.

Favorite Dish: What do you guess? Chicken Fajitas of course. Loved the Jalapenos that almost made me cry!

We had the Nachos Surpreme for starter, they were extremely tasty and big enough to be a full meal actually!

Cantina West: Nothing new at the Tequila front
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Cantina West

At this popular place a mad Tequila Saleswoman screams for you if you buy a Tequila. The furniture and the colours inside here are very nice but I thought the food wasn't as good as the design and the screaming Tequila woman ;-)

    Favorite Dish: Chicken Fajitas

Ravintola Ilves: Great food - Low prices
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Ravintola Ilves

Next to legendary rock club Tavastia there's this restaurant which serves excellent food at low prices. The atmosphere is more like a pub than like a restaurant... very relaxed!

Favorite Dish: I had a tasty burger with tasty chips for tasty €7.80!

Café Lasipalatsi: One of my favourites
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Café Lasipalatsi

I love to hang around the cafe at Lasipalatsi. It's very relaxed and they serve nice snacks here. It's a bit on the expensive side but the pies and muffins they serve are really nice.

Unfortunately they have rearranged the cafe since it was turned no smoking. It lost a lot of its loungy atmosphere in the back of the cafe I think.

Favorite Dish: Just a drink, some cake and relaxing for a while. It's kind of a tradition already.

It's lovely to sit outside in summer and watch all the people pass by. There was a Jazz festival when we were there in summer - it was a lovely hour we spent here! In winter this place is perfect to hang around for a while with a hot drink --- unfortunately it's very expensive! A cookie will cost you €2!

Favorite Dish: Expensive cake and Jazz music in the sun!

Cafe Engel: Touristy ... but nice
  • Tip Rating:

  • Helsinki - Cafe Engel at its best

  • Restaurant Name: Cafe Engel

Right opposite Tuomiokirkko at Senate Square there is Café Engel - a really nice café with a great view and atmosphere. At least in winter it is great, I bet this place is full of tourists in summer as it is mentioned in every guidebook.

The café is named after Carl Ludwig Engel, the Berlin based architect who designed Senate Square.

Favorite Dish: We only had a drink here so I have to say "The view of Tuomiokirkko through the window"! ;)
