General Tips: Top of Europe
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Go on 'Top of Europe' - the Jungfraujoch! (Take a Train from Grindelwald to 'Kleine Scheidegg' first and then on to the Jungfraujoch) It's the highest railway station in Europe (3454 meters / 11333 ft) and up there you're within all the huge mountains, the snow and the glaciers. The train there goes through a tunnel in the 'Eiger' mountain and you even stop to have a look out of some windows in the famous 'Eigernordwand'! Scary! It's not exactly cheap but I think it's worth every Swiss Franc spent! See my Top of Europe Travelogue with loads of pictures!

Fondest Memory: My best memory is the 'Rotsee' International Rowing regattas in Lucerne and quite a few good parties there. I miss the 'Muesli', the Swiss language, the mountains, the quietness and the 'Roesti' every time I have to go home!

  • Favorite Thing: Read a book about the Eiger North Face before you go and you will be absolutely thrilled by this mountain!

Fondest Memory: Standing on 'our' balcony on New Year's Eve with a glass of champagne while the churchbells were ringing and there was fireworks all around Lake Thun. Really romantic and lovely!

General Tips: Chocolate paradise and a lovely sky
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Buy as much chocolate as you can carry home ;-) !!!

Fondest Memory: One of my fondest memories of Switzerland is the eclipse of the sun in summer 1999. Here's a picture I took in Thun when it got dark. Unfortunately the weather wasn't too good that day but at least we saw a bit of it!

I was in Switzerland this past August and loved it. I agree Interlaken is a tourist trap. I am glad I was only passing through and not staying there.
