Wonderful Beautiful Colourful Joyful Prague

by sabsi - last update: Aug 27, 2007

I've been to Prague 6 times already, the first time I went was back in 1990, the last time was in summer 2007 for a long weekend. It has changed a lot in all this time and it is still changing...

Back in 1990, when Prague was still the capital of Czechoslowakia, there were hardly any tourists. We went on a school trip, had to have a visa for going there and drank lots of cheap alcohol and old re-imported Pepsi. A memorable experience!
Charles Bridge, still not too crowded in the 90s
In the 1990s I visited a few times, with friends and we had a great time every time. I almost died laughing in a toy shop twice, we made the castle guards laugh and drink from our beer in the night and we stayed in private apartments outside the city centre. Prague got more busy, the Americans and Italians arrived and with them there arrived new shops and new bars and a fantastic nightlife! We explored all sights and also went to football and ice hockey matches.
In summer 2007 I came back for a company trip, 10 years almost since my previous visit. Prague was very crowded and clean - definitely too crowded and almost a bit too clean. Still it was great to come back! We were invited to quite a few cool bars, restaurants and clubs, walked for miles around the old town and laughed a lot.

Enjoy this page, even if partly it's not one of my most serious ones ;-)

Pros:"Old town charm, lots of things to do, great food, good value prices"
Cons:"I always wonder how the locals feel if the tourists invade their city like they do here!"
In A Nutshell:"One of my favourite cities in Europe."

The mole pictures are cute ... my favourite kiddie TV show ever. I liked the Oliver Bierhoff story, too.
