Cape Town - Namibia - Botswana - Zimbabwe - Johann

by swesn - last update: Sep 9, 2002

Please start at CAPE TOWN first...

Namibia has the oldest desert in the world. Right by the ocean, fogs are formed upon the merging of the cold front from the Atlantic with the hot desert air. Little black beetles (as seen in Discovery Channel) would flip their bodies up to catch the passing fog, so as to condense the air and grab the water. Neat.

The major roads are N-S-oriented. We were almost always heading N. So, I always checked if we were travelling in the morning or the afternoon. If in the morning, the sun will be on the E side and I shall sit on the left side of the bus. If in the afternoon, I'll grab the right side of the bus. :)

Surreal indeed... ok, we've got scorpions, dolphins, expired passport, sand-cuisine, lord of the flies... & most incredible sand-dunes! I'm envious, lol...
