The Amazing Delhi Metro !

by coceng - last update: Jun 21, 2007

NAWALGARH <<<<< OLD DELHI >>>>> AGRA

3rd June (Sunday ) :
I didn't even plan to reach New Delhi in my original itineraries.
Why I reached Delhi then ?

I was in Jaipur & there were some fightings among the Gujjar community.
Anybody died ? I really didn't know but it was bad or something.
I was sketchy about it as I had not read any newspapers for the previous 2 weeks or so.
From Jaipur, I wanted to reach Agra but the train were also canceled.
Many other trains originating or passing through Jaipur was canceled.
The fighting was happening between Jaipur & Agra, so I was told.

So, I had to take the bus to New Delhi.
It's about 8 hours or so & it was a pleasant trip really, that's why I was sleeping most of the times !
The best thing was I had a bunk bed on the bus !
I never had that before.
Just imagine on a bus, there are seats right ?
On that bus, there were also bunk beds on top of the seats !
I had to climb up to it.
With curtain as well for some privacy !
Ain't that nice !

Anyhow, I call this page as Old Delhi because that's where the bus dropped me off.
Here's a scene taken from my bus on that early morning...
See the video on the right !
VIDEO
As I didn't plan to reach Delhi so I was lost.
Instead of dragging my luggage here, there & everywhere, I sat down somewhere & smoked.
Saw a hotel, dragged my luggage there & asked the reception which part of Delhi I was in.
He said, "Old Delhi !"

I remember on that early evening, about 5 am or so, it was started to get chaotic !
People just went out to work, traffic began to come out & honing was less maddening.

After knowing which part of Delhi I was in, opebed my guidebook & saw Old Delhi map.
Suddenly, I saw a railway station !
Old Delhi Station.
Excellent !
That's where I would be staying for a few hours before taking the train to Agra.

According to my guidebook, The Red Fort & Jamek Mosque were also in the vicinity.
Excellent !

Now, inside Old Delhi Station, had to look for the retiring room.
A dormitory would do as on that same day evening, I could take a train to Agra.
At the Old Delhi Station, I was being sent to here, there & everywhere !
They asked me to wait inside the waiting room because the registration for the dormitory would only opened at 8 am.
Damn !

In Old Delhi, I had times to see The Red Fort & Jama' Mosque.
The Red Fort is impressive !
You could see the outside.
VIDEO
And the inside of the fort...
Then, walked to Jama' Mosque.
VIDEO
Walking to Jama' Mosque was nice.
I could see all these stalls selling all kinds of things in life !
Jama' Mosque looked impressive from the distance.
It's the biggest mosque in India.

Seeing the Old Delhi area from the top of one of the towers was really nice !
VIDEO

After a few hours around The Old Delhi area, I took an auto to go back to The Old Delhi Station, well my dormitory.
VIDEO
On that day, in the early evening...
After got back from seeing Delhi Red Fort & Jamek Mosque, I could captured what the dormitory was like.
I loved it so very much !
There's an old feel about the place, like stucked in time in the 70's or something.
VIDEO
I could stay in there forever but on that evening, I had to catch my train to Agra.
Well, to see The Taj !
I managed to take DELHI METRO to New Delhi Railway Station.
Amazing !
It's like a different world inside Delhi Metro !
I couldn't take any video but I did take 2 photos in there.
