PYRAMIDS OF GIZA<<<<<ASWAN>>>>>PHILAE ISLAND EGYPT25th April 2005 ( Monday ) Arrived in Aswan by train from Cairo. It was such a pleasant journey ! Had a sleeping compartment (2 bunk beds) & the meal was provided ! BUT THE DRINK IS NOT INCLUDED ! So, we had to pay extra for the drinks ! How come nobody mentioned about this before ? Had a swell sleep, I was on the top bed & Patrick was on the lower bed; Told me he couldn't sleep ! No comment. Right when the sun was beginning to shine, I woke up. Had to snap as many photos possible outside the window. What a lovely sight, what a lovely scene. Seeing Egyptians doing their everyday chores, mostly in plantation fields. The palm trees were waving at me but not the people, maybe they didn't see any point in waving to the train. Donkeys & camels took part as well in this morning sights...Love what I saw. |
INFORMATION... Aswan is Egypt southernmost city. Population around 150,000. Sitting on the east bank of The Nile, Aswan is certainly laid back & a pleasant place to wander around. Although you will always be hassled by the felluca drivers but still, Aswan can still offer you a great vibe as a town on The Nile's riverbank. Aswan is very easy to wander around. Don't miss walking along the corniche as you can see many nice & beautiful activities on The Nile. This is also where the felluca riders will try to lure you into their fellucas. The Souqs (market place) in Aswan is where you can bargain of many stuffs sold here. Another GREAT attraction while in Aswan to visit The Elephantine Island ! Get there by felucca or by boat because this is the way to reach there ! This island is where you can see how The Nubians still live, with their daily life & their houses. The sights of The Nile from Eliphantine Island are just so beautiful ! The Pharoah called Aswan as Sono; Then, The Greeks called it as Sebn. The Arabs called it Aswan, as we know now but The Nubians calls this place as Eswangi; Meaning 'the outflowing water' as the ancient Nubians thought that the source of the Nile was the first fall at the south of Aswan. Cairo - Aswan is about 12 hours away; which is about 926 km. Luxor - Aswan is about 3 hours; 247 km. Aswan to Abu Simbel is about 309 km away. Aswan is a good base to discover many more attractions along The Nile ! Aswan also has Philae Island which you can go by taking the felluca ride; On this island, you can see some attractions on how The Nubians these days live their life... |
