The Trevi Fountain
For any traveler doing a grand tour of Europe, Rome is one of the cities that has to be seen. There is no city in Europe, perhaps the world that is so rich in art. I spent just five days in Rome and I feel that I only scratched the surface of this magnificent city
Once you get to Rome you will find that there is so much to see that it boggles the mind. You just do not know where to start. I actually saw Rome according to themes. When I arrived I visited the quick easy to take in sites that everyone is feels obligated to visit. The Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and so on. I just got my barrings straight and wandered. On my second day I visited the Ancient Roman sights such as the Forum and Colisseum. On the third day I visited the Vatican sights. On my fourth day I visited the outlying sights like the San Sebastian catacombs. On my final day I toured around all the must see sites that I missed on the previous days and did a little shopping to top it all off. I mentioned all of this because it is easy to become very frustrated in Rome as you attempt to see all these glorious sights. There is just too much to see. Therefore I hope this brief on my own itinerary is helpful and you have a fantastic time in this remarkable city.
Finally one remark about the restaurants. I ate in Rome better than any place I have ever visited, before or since. The food here is truely outstanding and I would like to say it worth visiting Rome just to eat in it's restaurants. Enjoy!

Pros:"Fantastic sites. Great Food."
Cons:"Very Congested. The Traffic is Awful. Not the Cleanest Place I Visited."
In A Nutshell:"Incomparable to Any City I Have Ever Seen."

Absolutely wonderful page on Rome Paul. I enjoyed reading your experiences there esp. Santa Maria Magiore, San Pietro in Vincoli, Pantheon & the Colosseum. Irish Pubs in Rome - and conveniently located near your hotel. What more could you ask for!!

Cogent descriptions of the architecture, as always. When I was in Rome there was a heat wave and bus strike on, so I didn't get that much out of it. Must try again at some other time of year.
