About 260 km south of Lanzhou lies Xiahe with one of the three biggest and most important Tibetan Buddhist Temples outside of Tibet.
Labrang was founded in 1710 and had in its best times about 3000 Lamas living there. Today still many hundred Lamas live in Labrang. And during festival-times it is crowded with worshippers and tourists.
Labrang is an interesting spot to see Tibetan pilgrims in their interesting and colorful dress. |
|  | Impressive Landscape Very impressive is also the landscape around Xiahe, the little town near the temple. The socalled graslands are more than 3000 m above sealevel. This is too high for trees. The Tibetan nomads here have their sheep and yaks on the meadows, which are full of wonderful flowers. |
