I went on a weekend trip to Chicago to hook up with a friend who was there during the week for work. We were joined by a friend from Ohio and another from Texas.
I took the subway from Midway Airport directly to our hotel without a hitch, dropped my bag off and walked a few blocks to the Art Institute. It was so easy to do!
For some odd reason, one thing that I really wanted to see was the Orb or Bean that's located in Millenium Park. To prove that whenever I travel, some major monument is closed, under scaffolding or renovation, only around 1/4 of it was visible. The rest was under a tarp and in some sort of scaffold-like structure.
But check out the cool picture that I snapped. |
| | I know it's large but.... Of course I know that for many years The Sears Tower was the largest building on earth but up close (our hotel was practically across the street from it!), it just didn't look that tall!
I don't mean this as any kind of criticism so please don't take it as such. Must just be a result of it's design. |
All Aboard! It was really hot 'n humid. What could be better than a River/Architecture tour? Here's the whole Chicago gang waiting for the trip to start! | | |

Living near the Bean. Life's good :-) | Cruefan Thu Apr 13, 2006 13:49 UTC I loved the your Chicago page, I've been there 3 times, but all were business trips and I never left the hotel. Nice to see that there is more to Chicago than confrence rooms and elevators. | TheWanderingCamel Sat Apr 1, 2006 10:31 UTC I remeber lovely fountains in Chicago too - and great architecture of all styles.
