Phuket

Beautiful blue sea off the coast of Phuket
Thanks to the amazing $1SGD fares on the new Singapore discount airline Tiger Air, my wife and I spent a relaxing, romantic weekend at the luxurious Chedi resort on Phuket island. We spent our time frolicking in the waves, soaking up a little sun (actually, soaking up WAY TOO MUCH sun!), and doing some snorkeling. We don't do many beach vacations, but one like this is nice every now and then, even if we both did suffer considerably the whole next week from our terrible sunburns!

Please visit the Phuket page on my personal website to see many more high quality photos from this destination.

Mar'05 Update:
My wife and I returned to Phuket on March 5th, only two months after the tsumani struck. We are happy to report that Phuket seems to be recovering quite rapidly from the disaster, and tourists appear to be returning in large numbers. There is still noticeable damage along the beachfronts, especially in Patong, but many businesses have already reopened and the overall mood is optimistic. We also had a chance to visit Phi Phi islands, but sadly Phi Phi Don is still in almost total ruins. Although daytrip snorkellers have returned to these islands, most businesses and resorts will take many more months to rebuild and reopen.
